Goaltenders in Spotlight for Day Two

October 14, 1999
Goaltenders exacted some revenge last week on a league which averaged over 24 goals per game last year. Leading the way was Hackers' goalie John Dulong who stopped all 27 shots in the Hackers' 14-0 blanking of the under-manned Sunnydale Slayers. This was the first shutout ever recorded in league history.

Setting another league record was Dulong's counterpart, Slayers' backstop Paul Chui. Chui faced a remarkable 72 shots and saved a record 58 of them.

The league's second game of the evening pitted two teams with markedly improved goaltending. Between the pipes for the Keane Fire was ironman Michael Griffiths. Griffiths posted his second-best ever save percentage (.767) in a 10-7 loss to the Lite-Sabres, despite battling a flu bug.

Griffiths was one upped by Lite-Sabres' secret weapon and surprise starting goaltended Ryan MacDonald. MacDonald, subbing for tardy GM Richard MacMillan, saved over 80% of Kean Fire shots and allow only seven goals.

So will the high-calibre goaltending continue throughout the 1999B season? Find out tonight at the Needham Center when the Lite-Sabres battle the Hackers in a rematch of last year's final and the Keane Fire tangle with the Sunnydale Slayers. Limited seating available.
