What's In Name - week 2 recap

January 30, 2018
Hey ho neighbour!
This is Billy Concarney here with a recap of last nights play in the HFHL.
Week two saw some great match ups and some pretty even play. so let's get er' done

First up we have the Chill vs the reining champ Titans.
So, what's in a name? Some people have some pretty awesome names, like Johann Tienhaara, that sounds like Norwegian royalty doesn't it.
Or Doug Forrest, that sort of makes you feel peaceful and serene like.
Well our first game recap is about another name...Gerard "Woody" Gouthro. Otherwise known as MONEY this night. who nilly, listen to Billy, this guy was dope! Which makes him this weeks HFHL Player of the Week. let's find out why

So the Chill are missing a key component in goalie Paul Highmore, who will miss a few weeks due to a lower body injury. But step in Marty "The Party" Kane and away we go.
First period saw a pretty close one with both teams scoring goals. Waugh from Arseneau and Woody from Areseneau for the Chill, while the Titans had help from Chris Sampson and Scotty Cross. 2-2 after the first.
Kane had to pack it in after the first but Adam Larder to the rescue.
The second started with the Chill scoring the first four goals. Woody had the first of the period and then 3 helpers on goals scored by Doug Forrest, Clark LeRiche and then Doug again. Sampson struck again picking up his second of the game, followed by Dan Sinnott from Sampson. Could this be the come back? Well Wayne Hardy and Doug Forrest answered for the Chill with his third of the game but Sampson and Cross each tallied to end the period. After the 2nd, the score was 8-6...close enough to maybe stage a third period comeback.
But then the third period started...and it was not good for the Titans. Some guys named Woody, passed to Clark LeRiche for the first goals of the period, and then scored four goals to close the game out.
This was shear dominance by one guy named Gerard "woody" Gouthro.
We asked Woody about the game and he started rambling about Buzz Lightyear and some kid named Andy, so we just gave up...
This was a loss for the Titans as the Chill bested them 13-6 thanks to Woody!
Notables also were Doug Forrest who had a hat trick and 2 helpers and Chris Sampson for the Titans was a bright and shining hipster with 3 goals and 1 assist.

Next up saw the Sabres visiting the Hackers on the small floor.
The Hackers coming off a convincing win against their interdivisional rival Bulldogs and the Sabres coming of the same against the Slayers.
The Hackers got caught flat footed in the first and this meant the Sabres would take a 4 zip lead into the second.
The Hackers came out on Fire in the second scoring the first two goals before Evan Canning grabbed a goal to add to the lead...but they were going to need it.
The Hackers scored two more to close out the period and set the stag for an epic third period battle.
The Hackers came out hard and pressed the Sabres right from the get go. They fired 22 shots on Kane, who turned aside everyone. Kyle Bradbury gave the Sabres some breathing room late in the 3rd when he completed his hat trick to give the blades a two goal lead. The Hackers just could not solve Kane and so this one went down as a win for the Sabres by a score of 6-4
Notable for the Sabres were Kyle Bradbury with a hat trick and Evan Canning who had a hat trick plus 2 assists. On the Hackers, Alex gale recorded a two goal night. All we can say is who ever faces the Hackers next week better be ready, because history tells us that these guys do not like t lose and someone is gonna pay!

Another greta game saw the Slayers and the Bulldogs square off for their first meeting of the year. These guys were sporting different looks from last week as they traded 2 players each in the seasons first trade of the 2018.
the Dogs had changed a few things up and the Dynamic Duo of Roger and Bryce Keating were paired together and proved to be a menace to the Slayers.
Kyle Bayers started the scoring off a feed from JD but Bryce Keating grabbed the first of his three gaols when Poppa K threaded a pass and Bryce made no mistake. Tie game.
The two new faces for the Slayers wanted to make a statement to their former captain and that they did, when Sean Nutter and Aaron Brown both touched their former team back to back to give their team a 3-1 lead, but Bryce and Roger struck again to keep it close.
3-2 for the Slayers after the 1st.
The second saw Aaron Brown put an exclamation point on things when he notched his second to start the period off a feed from JD.
But guess who? Keating and Keating kept making' em' pay when Roger scored two in a row both from Bryce. Nutter wanted to make sure that he wasn't forgotten in all of this and so he scored his second of the game giving the Slayers a 5-4 lead...but another guys involved win the trade grabbed a goal in one Richard wanamaker off a feed from Bryce Keating. This baby was all tied up heading into the third.
the third was a bit quieter on the score sheet but Roger and Bryce scored to take a 7-5 lead late into the period.
The Slayers pressed hard in the later part of the third and grabbed a goal for their efforts, but thats all she wrote and when the final whistle went, the Dogs had their first win in a squeaker by a score of 7-6
notable in this game were Roger and Bryce Keating who each had hat tricks and three helpers.
For the Slayers, Kyle Bayer had a goal and four assists, while Aaron Brown did his job with 2 goals as did Sean Nutter who had the same. The Slayers seemed to have won the trade...but the Dogs won the game.

Last game of the night saw the Fire square off against the Lynx.
the Lynx started off the scoring when Erb scored from That Guy Griff. The Fire answered back with two of their own, one from Rob Tyrrell and the other from Sean Fitzgerald. 2-1 Fire after the 1st
The Lynx tied it up quick in the second when Eric Gale buried a shot off a feed from Mike DeAdder....but the Fire lit it up scoring three in a row from Mullen, Gelinas and Fitzgerald taking a commanding lead...but Eric Gale gave his team some hope recording his second to close out the second.
The third saw the Fire grab their sixth goal of the game when captain Tyrrell scored to open the period. But the Lynx kept coming and as a result they scored 3 goals and tied it all up.
This one ended up 6 all in a great game.
Notables were Sean Fitzgerald who had 2 goals and 2 assists while Eric Gale recorded a hat trick and Shane Erb grabbed two goals of his own.

So thats how it looked this week folks.
The Bulldogs, Slayers, Sabres and the Hackers are all pretty formidable opponents and will see lots of each other this season since they are all in the same division.
No one running away with anything as of yet...should be a great season.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
