Lynx Catch Fire; 3 Clubs Tied for 2nd

April 24, 2003
With captain Harvey Snelgrove in goal, the Keane Fire played the ADC Lynx to a 6-6 tie Thursday night. Unfortunately for the Fire, Snelgrove did not arrive until the 2nd period, and by then the Fire trailed 8-2. Second star Phil Pellerin scored 4 of his 5 goals in the opening frame, as Chill defenseman Peter Rankin, on loan to the Fire, valiantly tried to defend the goal armed only with a shortstop's glove. The Lynx went on to a 14-8 win.

The reasons for Snelgrove's late arrival remain a mystery, as he referred all post-game questions to Fire PR man Kenzie Royal, who also missed the game. Asked about rumours that Snelgrove was busy tending to the fixing of some bugs in its computer systems, a spokesman for a major Boston-based financial services company replied "Harvey Who?". The most reliable source has told this website that Snelgrove was actually just returning from Quebec City, where he was planning to fulfill his dream of playing goal for the Nordiques. When reminded the Nords left Quebec 8 years ago, the source replied "Sometimes Harvey's a little late!"

Thursday's late game saw a real 6-6 tie, as the Keane Chill scored two third period goals to earn a draw with the LAN Hackers. Tony Joyce's third tally of the night allowed the Chill to avoid what would have been its 5th one-goal loss of the season.

These results create a three-way logjam with the Lite-Sabres, Lynx, and Fire all tied for 2nd place with 10 points. At the other end of the standings, the Chill and Slayers will battle next Monday night with the winner clinching 5th place; a tie would keep the Slayers alive. Since the FHL tie-breaking formula is more complicated than any of this website's reporters can explain, suffice to say the league expects record attendance and interest for the final week of the regular season.
