Season Ending Notes

January 7, 2009
With the 2008B season drawing to a close, commissioner Richard Wannamaker announced the following changes for 2009A:
  • There will be two new captains next season.  Dave Blandford will be stepping down as head of the Lite-Sabres to spend more time with his new family and will be replaced by leage veteran and first-time captain Terry Davison.  Meanwhile, Mike Cogdon will hand the reins of the Slayers over to Gian Scalet.  After a fustrating season with the Lynx, it was rumored that the long time Halifax ball hockey veteran wanted to start calling the shots himself, and commissioner Wannamaker was more than willing to accomodate an interested captain.
  •  Subs, subs and more subs.  There's nothing worse than heading into a tight game against a divisional opponent to discover that half of their team didn't show and the available substitutes are a who's who of the league's top scorers.  This was noticed by the league this year and it was announced that the minimum number of players will drop - there will be no 'regular' player pickups next season, unless a team has less than 4 players.  That's it gentlemen, if you've got one line, you're good to go.
  •  Goalie substitues also got a lot of talk during the season.  A quick look at the stats show top tender Martin Kane with a surprising 14 games played this season.  This has been seen in the past, with Frank Dufour once playing 19 games during the 2007A season.  The relationship between the top goaltenders and games played has been noticed, so the League executive will be convening to talk about how goalie substitues are done as well.
  •  Finally, after so much talk about the use of substitutes, the League will be restricting invites on players who do not show regular attendance without some formal communication or notice of absence.  A number of players simply 'don't show up' and this issue needs to be looked at.
