Halifax Floor Hockey League
This is Billy Concarney and I'm here to give you tiger low down, the throw down, the hippitty, hoppitty dont stop show down that took place last Monday night between the Hackers and the sabres.
What a game, lets see what happened.
So the first period saw the teams taking a little bit of time to figure each other out. Shots were pretty even. Goalies playing solid. Not really any mistakes. After the first these guys were ties one a piece.
The Seconds heated up a bit and the Hackers rookie sensation from another nation Matt "The Bum" Strum scored the first two goals of the period off of passes from Cooper and Cooper.
the Sabres didn't get rattled though and they came back with a goal from Kyle Bradbury on a pass from Matt Power. Then Keven Pittman jumped in scoring a goal again from a feed from Power. She be all tied up...until Adam Healy ripped a shot top shelf off a feed from Louis Brill and the Hackers took a one goal lead into the third.
The Third saw the Sabres come out fast grabbing the first two goals but the Hackers stayed in the hunt with a goal from Blair Cameron on a power play to even it up once again.
The Sabres were relentless and they took the lead once more with 1:47 left when Keven Pittman recorded his second of the game after being set up by Evan Canning. Could this get any more suspenseful? Well heck yea!!!
Time was ticking away but the Hackers are too deep to say die, so there was a scramble in front of Kane with just about a minute left. The Sabres D had the ball on heir stick and just had to flick it away, but a last second hesitation led to the ball being coughed up to a wide open Gord Caines, who wasted no time burying the shot to even it up.
At this point the Sabres looked like they were just bewildered and with 7 seconds left in the game, a wide open Good canes once again fired into a wide open net unmolested and that was all she wrote. Pretty great come back for the Hackers, and a pretty slack two minutes for the Sabres.
All in all this was one of the best finals we have had in a long time. Bobby Zwicker grabs yet another championship and is this weeks HFHL, Player of the Week.
So there you have it folks...the Hackers are once again on top of the mountain. Cooper continues to put together the pieces like a skilled GM and Captain and as always is a force to reckon with.
Kudos to the Sabres who started out flying this season but ended up fading but they saved their best for a great play off run.
