Let's Get This Party Started!!! Week one recap

January 15, 2019
Hey there boys and girls! This is Billy Concarney here with a recap on the first week of the HFHL 2019A Season.
Now if this week is any indication...we are gonna have one high scoring affair!
But enough of this gibberish ... lets take a loo at the games.

First up saw the Fire, while under new ownership, facing off against the always potent and dangerous Hackers. This game saw the first and second over all draft picks poised to battle it out.
Well, Matt Strum came out of the gate first scoring the first goal of the season taking an early lead. But new guys Joe "ain't slow" Murphy made no mistake letting everyone know he's here for real as he scored on his first two shots.
Liam MacLeod answered back on a pass from Strum and then Strum added two more to take a 4-2 lead into the dressing room after the first.
But this new guy Joe...well he's something special. Team him up with Super Cooper and this is one deadly combo. the ball dropped for the second and Joe scores three more goals and just lie that the tables turn. Rookie D man Mike Collier scored his first goal of his HFHL career next, followed by Paul Chang and after two, the Hackers have pulled away with a 7-4 lead.
The third was all Hackers as they added 5 more goals to their total to the Fire's one and when the horn sounded to end this one, it was the Hackers serving notice that they are the team to beat this year with a 12-6 win.
Notables are Joe "Ain't Slow" Murphy with 6 goals and 2 helpers, enough to give him this week's HFHL Player of the Week hours. Way to go you rookie phenomenon you! while Matt Strum was the bright light for the smouldering Fire with a three goal performance of his own...plus a helper of course.

Next up we have the Sabres facing off against the Lynx. The Lynx were in the hole early as they started this one without their first two picks i the draft. The Sabres, lead by newbie captain Kyle "The Smile" Bradbury, had a full bench.
The Lynx drew first blood in this contest when James "That GUy' Griffith Allwood scored his first goal of the season unassisted. But the newly acquired rookie A.J. Brown scored his first two goals followed by one from Chris Innes to take a 3-1 lead into the second.
the second was much the same and saw the Sabres grab three more to the Lynx 1 and after tw it was 6-2 for the Sabres.
The gets opened up in the third d the Sabres came out on a tear scoring 7 unanswered goals and this one was all she wrote.
Notable for the Sabres were Good "The Pain" Caines who grabbed 4 goals and three helpers and the dynamic duo of Troy "the house of" Winsor and A.J. "the fake Aaron" Brown who each tallied a hat trick. The Sabres take this one 13-2

last game o the night saw the Chill facing off against the Slayers. The Slayers had a new look coming out with Alex Gale as team captain and former captain Rob "The rhino" Tyrrell poised to make a statement. The Chill, on paper anyway, have the best ever assembled defence squad the ease has seen. Well...after the first game, you ca throw that paper away cause it aint worth the tree it came from!
Ball drops and the Chill assert dominance for the first, although Rob T started the games scoring his first goal of the season.
but Gerard "woody" Gouthro and Matt Clarke grabbed their first goals of the season off passes from Scott Cross and after the first the Chill have a 2-1 lead.
But that was short lived...
The Slayers came out and capitalized on a mirage of errors and fortunate bounces and without going into too much detail became I have other stuff todo now, the Slayers scored 7 goals in the second and took a more than commanding lead into the dressing room. 8-2 after the second.
The third saw the Chill wake up a bit and they scored the first two goals of the period closing the gap. But the Slayers answered back with three more goals and the one was once again a run away. But the Chill look like a never say die team and the came roaring back with 5 goals to close the gap to within two, but Slayers captain stopped the bleeding scoring the last goal of the night and when the fat lady sang, it was 12-9 for the Slayers.
Notables in this game were Wayne Hardy and Trevor Mcguigan with 2 goals and 3 assists each and Scott Cross with 3 goals and 3 assists.

So after one week, we ca see that there is a clear pattern forming here. As a result, the league is contemplating offering counselling for all goalies except Craig and Jason and also looking at a goalie run defensemen's clinic that might be mandatory if this keeps up!

All kidding aside, this was great start to the season. Only three penalties all night and everyone was respectful. Greta job guys.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and have a great week folks. Be well!
