Close da curtain yer given da boys a show!

October 28, 2010
And what a show it was! There are way too many Matts in this league, Matt Clarke, Matt Warnell, Matt Monk and now all those blue things we used to keep the animals on their own side of the floor!
Yes folks, this week saw the league step into a new era under the regime..I mean leadership of J.T. (No not Justin Timberlake the defencemen) but our very own League Commish, Johaan Tienhaara!
Adversity was the name of the game as we all arrived to be left in the wings while the NBA game finished it's long drawn out ending...did anyone read about that in the papers? I didn't see anything, but it sure LOOKED important! Then, we we were left with out the big blue buddy...yes that's right, the curtain was called but nothing came down! That's when our fast acting Commish came up with a game plan to play on and use the Matts..I mean mats to keep the games going. It was a great night that saw little trouble and talk about overcoming adversity! Great job Justin...I mean Johaan!

Fire 8  Slayers 8

This was a great match up from the get go. There were a total of 15 goals scored in the first period in this one, one in the second and you do the math! For the Fire, the two Robs had 4 points each as they helped their team rise to the occasion by staying stride for stride with the Slayers. For the Slayers, Mike "The Tall Guy with the scruffy beard" Cogdon had 7 points, adding to his league leading 35 pts. Meanhwile Peter "the heater" Eddy shocked the organization by passing the ball three times. Ok, well it must have hit someone or something because we all know that ain't happening. The tie keeps the Slayers on top of the "Bloomers" division keeps their undefeated season going.

Chill 5   Sabres  2

Another low scoring affair for the Chill as they pulled away in the later part of the game to keep their undefeated season alive. The score was 1 to nil for the Sabres after the first but then the Chill unloaded for 4 straight goals to seal the deal on this one. Much to the delight of Sabres goalie Pierre Joyal, who could be heard laughing hysterically, Sheldon O'Brien gave the Sabres their second goal late in the third with a mighty blast from the point that just seemed to shock Kane as if he didn't even see it coming...did he Peter Rankin...ahem, ahem. We caught up with Chill goalie, Marty "Candy" Kane and asked him about the game.
"This was a pretty good game for us. We're getting some great two way play from our guys. the "D" men are really stepping up this year. we've got a great team. I'm actually going through withdrawals because I haven't anyone to yell at. That kind of sucks, but hey, it's all part of the game right."

Lynx 11  hackers 7

Red curry isn't the only thing that is hot! The Hackers were led by none other than league longtime goon Shawn Currie as he showed flashes of yester year by racking up 8 points in this one. Something that hasn't been seen since the days when the league played games that were 3 hours long and 1000 games per season. That's when Shawn amassed a total of 144 points in one season. Seriously, check the record books!
The most pleasant surprise in this game was the play of one David Blandford, who showed some Crosby like skills when he went end to end and scored one of the prettiest goals this reporter has ever seen...and luckily for Blandford, Dave Harnett was through with the oxygen on the bench. There were fears earlier in the day that the Hackers may not even be able to field a team due to what some believe was a result of a controversial news item by none other than myself, but this proved to be a hoax after all.

Titans 8  Bulldogs 7

Talk about tight! This one was so tight Jeff Shute's drawers were squeaking with every step. This one came down to the wire as both teams battled hard and in the dying seconds of the game, the Titan tough guy John Couch came to the rescue by scoring the game winner. The Bulldogs took a 7 - 4 lead into the latter part of the third when Jeff "My Arms are some big" Shute scored a goal followed by a trip to the Couch...three more times! This was a tough loss for the Dogs as they seemed to have everything under control but it just wasn't to be this night. After the game, the Bulldogs were seen gathered outside around a campfire singing "Kumbya My Lord, Kumyba" This ended rather abruptly though when Dogs Goalie Tom Wynn broke out in song saying "Someone's not coming back to help out Lord...Kumbya"

This marks the half way point of the season and by the looks of some of the standings, some of the team captains have to be thinking the old "T" word. One thing this league has never seen is a trade. Could this be the year for it? Some of us reporters...ok well I am wondering anyhow, whether we'll see some changes before too long. I think the deadline for trades is the 7th week. that leaves only two more shopping days to get your business done boys. One rumor floating around is that Kim Grover will be traded for Kelsie Trenholme. we'll keep an eye on that.

well folks, it's late and I need some beauty rest...lots of it apparently, so so long and remember...anything worth taking seriously, is worth making fun of!

Happy Halloween!
