Will someone PLEASE close the curtain!!!!

November 2, 2010
So last week I reported the thought of the "T" word. The old "trade". You remember, the thing that has never happened in this league before. Well folks, you can kiss any idea of that happening bye, bye!
Thanks to the honest pick ups of the captains in order to replace their "no shows", the face of the 2010B season has changed dramatically and who needs to make a trade? No one.
With the decision of the leagues captains, it is apparent that we won't see a trade this year...or will we...  (Duh, duh, duh, duuuuuuuh!!!!!!) Oh well, let's get on with it...

Fire  10   Sabres  9

The Joyal-less Sabres lost a close one to the raging Fire by one goal. This game was great from start to finish with Rookie/veteran Blair Hammond turned in his best performance to date as his team rallied ion the third to take the win. The Sabres held a 9  -  6 lead going into the third but the Fire, not to be doused this night, came roaring back to burn the Sabres 4 times. Led by their captain Rob Tyrrell, the fire just dominated the latter part of the game. We asked Rob his thoughts on his teams performance. "My teams performance??? You have to be kidding me right. I mean didn't you see MY performance? I won the game for us single handedly in the third. I mean they played good...but come on now, I played GREAT!" Just for the record, Rob had his hand in on all four goals in the third, scoring 3 and adding a helper.

Bulldogs  9   Lynx  8

Bang, bang, bang!!! Shots could be heard through out the night as controversial newcomer Matt "The Shot" Gunn made an immediate impact to his team by recording 3 points and providing a much needed defensive presence for the hapless Dogs. This was another game decided by one goal which saw the Lynx fight tooth and claw to stay in this one. Seems that Shawn "I'm Soo Hot" Currie has found his scoring touch half way through the year and really contributing to the teams offense. Team Captain Matt "The Punk" Monk was pretty emotional after the game. "Yea, I love these guys (sniff, sniff) they keep coming out and playing the best they can (sniff, sniff) I just wish the score sheet (sniff) showed the blood sweat and tears that we (sniff) keep pouring into these games (sniff, sniff, sniff) every night". On another note, the league has broken a record with the addition of newcomer Matt "The Shot" Gunn, meaning that besides the blue things that have separated the floors for the last two weeks, this is the most "Matts" we have ever had in the league at one time! What a milestone! Congrats to our Commish J.T!

Chill 4   Slayers   4

This was the one everyone was waiting for...maybe because it took so long to get started, but hey, it's a headline right! The two division leaders squared off this night and battled to a draw. In a hard fought game, the difference in this one early on was the play of last minute call up Shane Hartt, who stole the show with some huge saves to keep the Slayers in the game.  The Slayers took a 3 goal lead in the second but the Chill, undermanned and some say out talented, rose top the occasion to keep the game close. Former Chill goalie, although he really wasn't that good, stepped up again with some heavy handed play picking up a penalty and scoring twice, including the game tying goal late in the third.
We asked Adam Cowie what he thought about the game. "Well, it was a tie. We played them pretty good seeing as we have been missing one our best player in Tony "I'm The Choice " Joyce and a key defensmen in Rob "The Hulk" Tighe. I'm happy with our efforts". Things weren't so joyous on the other side though. Outside after the game Slayers captain Peter "The Heater" Eddy was seen putting posters up around Stad saying "Wanted, a "Tall Guy With a Scruffy Beard" who can pass the ball to me more"

Titans 13   Hackers  1

League long time sniper Ryan Milligan proved to be a spoiler tonight as he scored a powerplay goal in the second to break the shut out opportunity for Jason Boudreau. This was the only bright spot for the hackers in this one. The Titans packed a powerful punch as they totally dominated  this one from the start.  Titan captain Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute had six points and his new recruit, Brett "I Don't have A Last name" New Guy added 4 goals and 2 assists to secure the win.
We asked Shute about this "New Guy". "We needed to pick up a player to replace Ivor. He was a huge part of the team and had picked up at least 20 or 30 point for us so this new guy Brett ??, he will be just as good, because I as a captain made certain that i picked someone up who was only as good as the guy he replaced. That's the deal we had and me being the stand up guy i am, just made sure I manipulated...I mean kept my part of the deal"
Meanwhile, back at the Hackers head quarters, there is some rumors of infighting amongst players. Apparently there were some sticks flying and at one point Mike Hunter, one of the leagues top goalies and now we learn "closet Jedi Knight" used the force and caused the net to rise and fly into the back wall. This startled some players and actually made one guy cry.
"I didn't know we were playing against freakin' Jedi Knights man. Those guys il' choke you till you can't breath anymore. I know they can, I saw it in a movie once. If only I was a Jedi Knight. I Got these great big cannon arms, but I ain't no Jedi!" We will keep this person's identity secret.

So there you have it folks. This is the end of the 6th week and what a week it was. The dynamics of the league have changed and it's clear that the dominating division up to this point is the Needham, division, which after this weeks pick ups, will be changed to Need Him division.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, if you can't beat your computer at chess, try kick boxing!
Have a great week!
