Well this reporter is not going to sit by and watch it come and go without throwing some gas on the proverbial fire!
Let's look at the teams and what their needs are
Fire - With 53 goals for and 52 against, their team is balanced, but they either need to get their "D" tightened up or look at a goaltending change.
Lynx - these guys have 54 goals for and 62 against. They have a good roster, but maybe a trade or two is in order to address their weaknesses in the goals against end of things.
Titans - These guys are set. With the mid season acquisition of new guy Brett Wiley (Kiley), the Titans have given themselves a great shot at the league title.
Chill - The Chill post the second lowest goals for with 47 but by far have the best goals against with 27. They could use some more fire power but with the return of a healthy Tony JJJJOOOOOOOYYYYYCCCCCE, this could be found in house.
Hackers - These guys are way better on paper than their record shows. They post 42 goals for and 66 against going into week 8 and captain Neil "The Deal" Cameron has to be concerned with this. There are definite issues with this organization and this is one team that has to be looking at making a change
Sabres - well what do you say about a team loaded with this fire power who has such a bad record. They are hurting on the goals against end of things. Sabres decision maker, Doug "The Pug" Forest has to be thinking trade
Bulldogs - Gill "The Magnificent" Mombo has put together a team of role players. With the mid season pick up of Matt "The Shot" Gunn, he may have addressed one of his teams issues, but he is still missing that one thing to put him over the top
Slayer - Well, these guys are solid everywhere...but they don't have a goalie. The league has made it clear that they must pick up a guy who is no better than what they had, which was the young Matt Warnell. Peter Eddy needs to be aware of this as if he doesn't do this in the next week, he will be forced to take a guy off the team he has now and put him in nets.
So here is how it looks, the only two teams in this league who DON'T have to be on the phone are the Chill and the Titans. In my opinion, everyone other captain should be trying to make a deal to put his or her team over the top. Get them to the next level, eye the prize...and all the other cheap one liners. The lack of effort by the remaining captains to make a move to improve their team is not a surprise, as with every year that has gone by, no trade has ever been made. Does this mean that there are a lot of "rubber backbones" out there? The next couple of days will tell the tale.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, if I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong!
