This is Billy Concarney here and I'm going to make fun of..er, I mean...take a look at the remaining teams who will be facing off this week with some predictions to boot! So let's get started.
The first semi-final game will take place at the Big Floor Arena at 8:30 this coming Monday. The Lynx, the preverbial whipping boys of the Needham Division, finished in last place but showed some glimpses of success late in the season and have carried that momentum into the play offs by pulling off one of the biggest upsets we've seen since the restructuring of the league...or was it really an upset? Let's take a look this team a little closer.
In nets you have "Teddy" Graham Dodge. He has his ups and downs but if he is on the up and up, he will give you a solid game. Now that he has his equipment issues under control, thanks to a league handyman who painstakingly stitched and stitched for hours and hours to make sure that the Marty Brodeur style pads would once again serve their rightful purpose, he is back playing with new found confidence. he might not be a difference maker, but he can certainly be part of the equation.
On "D", you have one of the toughest tag team duos ever assembled in Matt "The Bratt" Clarke and Matt "The Punk" Monk, they are showing some unparalleled ball control in the back court which is allowing their team plenty of room to set up and get some good quality scoring chances. Throw utility man Tom "The Bomb" Griffiths and you add some versatility for one of these guys to move up front and get into the offense.
Up front you have the veteran scoring talents of Shawn "Red Hot" Currie and Kevin "I'm Bad" Haddad. These guys are getting the job done. Currie, or "Red Hot" as his buddies call him, can hurt you many ways. Whether he is playing the physical presence in front of the net or taking that booming slap shot from the point, he still will get his name on the score sheet every night. As for Haddad, he isn't going to blow anyone off the court with his daring speed or daunting slap shot, but this guy scores game in and game out. He spelled demise for the Slayers this past week with a "step up to the plate and hit a home run" game that accounted for 5 goals. that my friends is what we call luck..I mean stepping up your game. Throw Roger "A Walk In The" Park into this as a guy who will play the "D" forward position as well as anyone else in this league and here comes Tom "The Bomb" Griffiths once s again to add some grit and speed up front.
So, despite the fact that these guys finished at the bottom of the Needham division, they can hurt you.
We were able to catch up with Slayer forwards Mike "The Tall Guy With The Scruffy Beard" Cogdon and Peter "The Heater" Eddy on a beach some where down South.
Cogdon: "Yea, now we get to sit on this here beach and just sip on these here drinks and enjoy this here scenary. Beats having to go to the rink every Monday, but i would have rather been sipping from the cup,you know what I'm sayin'?."
Eddy: "I hear ya Mike. We might have showed up a bit late for the play off game, but we tried. I have to give it to the Lynx, they sure took a bite outta us..ha,ha. Oh well, there's always next year. besides, now we are here down South and on this beach, who could ask for anything else?"
Well maybe a couple of blankets and some hot coffee...live on location at some undisclosed beach in Yarmouth county...down south, who are they kidding?
