This week marked the first week of crossovers and there were some great games going down tonight. So let's get to stories shall we...
Chill 12 Slayers 9
So here was another high scoring affair. Up until the 3rd, it was pretty close with the Slayers in front 7 to 5. But that quickly changed with the 3rd period as the Chill went on a whiteout and just plastered the Slayers with 8 goals to take the win. Long time and league leading veteran Mike "The Tall Guy With Scruffy Beard" Cogdon had 6 goals and two helpers while for the Slayers, Gill "The Magnificent" Mombo had 2 goals and 2 assists. Chill rookie goalie Jon "The Don" Rathbun showed flashes of brilliance as he made some big time money making saves...except no one makes any money here. Sorry Jon. At the other end, new comer Dan "The Man" Samson has to figure his game out in order for his team to get into the playoffs thsi season...oh wait a minute, everyone makes the playoffs. Look for the Slayers to score a bunch and maybe look to try and make a mid season trade to sure up their teams chances a bit more going into the playoffs.
Hackers 7 Titans 6
Well this year isn't proving to be a banner year yet for the Mighty Titans. team captain Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute must be shaking his head trying to figure out what is going on with his team. For the second week in a row the Titans had man issues...well, we won't get in to the particulars of that statement, but they also had trouble fielding a team. Thanks to Captain Fire Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell, who gave the Titans a needed lift, but it proved too little too late for the mighty T's as the Hackers hacked and whacked their way to a win. Jason "The Flash" Boudreau stood on his head and faced 58 shots from the Titans but held strong to help his team secure the win. Mean while new guy Chris "I still can't come up with nick name" MacKinnon gave his team a fighting chance holding the Hackers to a zero count in the 3rd.
We asked Captain/GM Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute what his thoughts were on his teams no shows.
"Well, I can't figure it out. I mean, I have been having trouble with my email so I bought this book called "Get Them Your Message". It's about sending messages the old fashioned way...via pigeon. Anyhow, I bought these pigeons and sent tied the little notes to their legs and sent them out to everyone. None of them came back so i figure it was working. maybe no one likes me. But That can't be right? Look at these babies (pointing to his arms). I mean, seriously, who couldn't like these!"
Mean while, at the local level, the department of food services is investigating a complaint after a customer at a local restaurant ordered chicken soup and found a note in it that said "Hey, It's me Big Arms. Game is at 8:30 this week"
Lynx 10 Bulldogs 6
The Lynx appear to be getting into form now and picked up their second win in a row as they beat the toothless Bulldogs 10 to 6 this past week. Big gun Neil "The Real Deal" Cameron had his best night after spending a season in the bush leagues and scored 5 goals. Thus reminding his team captain why he was called up to begin with. On the other side of the court the Dogs were led by Rob "Feet brush" Hanscomb who 4 points on the night.
Cameron recorded his 250th regular season point in as many games...gotcha!
Sabres 7 Fire 5
The Fire's hopes of an undefeated season fell by the wayside as the razor sharp Sabres handed them their first loss of the year. It was a pretty rough and tumble game which started out with some physical play and culminated in a couple of game misconducts being handed out. League vet Doug "the Pug" Forrest led the Sabres with 3 goals and 3 helpers while Rob Tyrrell led the Fire with 5 points. The Fire out shot the Sabres 58 to 30 but just couldn't solve the riddle of Kane. Well ecxept when Rob "I wish I could" Tighe fired a rocket from about 3/4 of the way down the floor that almost decapitated two of the Sabres players and eventually after a rather long period of time, blew by Kane. The crowd erupted into a brief roar and then realized what they had just witnessed. Rob Tighe had just scored the 72nd goal of his career. Congrats Rob!
So we need to bring up some dirty here this week. For all you new guys, we are so glad that you are here playing in the league. We have some great new talent this year. One of the things the league has always had pride in was the clean competitive nature of our game. In the spirit of maintaining this, we want to remind everyone that this is for fun. No one makes any more money or less money at the end of it all. We all have a life out side of hockey and no one wants to see anything happen that might affect that. So in short, stay cool guys. It's not the NHL, it's the HFHL...which is better but pays less. Let's keep our cool out there and have fun.
That's how I saw it from here folks. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, There is no "I" in TEAM...but there is an "M" and an "E"!
Be well folks
