Pigeons for all!!! Week 6 recap

March 9, 2011
Hey Ho people and welcome back to another week of fabulous reporting about a fabulous league! This week saw quite a few blow outs and one humdinger of a game by tow of the best goalies in the league. So let's get started...

He Shutes he scores  again, and again, and again, and again and yet again!!!

Titans  11    Bulldogs  4

Well this Titan team looked like the team that mastermind Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute was banking on after the draft. After a three week stint of no shows and letdowns, his team finally showed up and what a game they played. Led by their fearless coach now dubbed "Captain Pigeon" by many of the leagues followers, who had 6 goals and even passed the ball once for a helper. Meanwhile for the lowly Bulldogs, Rob "The Nascar" Pittman picked up two. blair Hammond faced 49 shots, but once again the high number of shots also resulted in a high number of goals. His team and he will have to tighten things up if they want to make a run in the play offs.

Someone turn the lights off, cause this baby's uuuuugggggglllllyyyyy!

Slayers  16     Fire  5

The Slayers came into this one riding their first win of the year last week and wasted no time at all taking control of this game by scoring the first 5 goals of the game in the first 5 minutes. It was a blow out right from the get go as the Slayers scored 7 in the first, 4 in the second and 5 more in the third. The shot count in this one was low for our standards with the Fire facing 36 and the Slayers facing 29. For the second week in a row the Slayers had to call on a replacement goalie and to their dismay, were faced with the news that they had lost their  #1 goalie Dannie Samson for the remainder of the season due to outstanding circumstances. This will force captain Barry Coolen to either try and trade some of his fire power for a decent goalie or explore his options in the free agent listing of the league. We asked barry how he felt about loosing his goalie. "Yea it's a tough one. He was always there to play you know and was a great guy in the dressing room. I'm not sure what we'll do, but it has certainly rallied the troops on this one. I think we'll dedicate the rest of the season to stepping up for our next goalie as we obviously weren't there for the last one."

Want to slow a Hacker? Turn up the Chill!

Chill  11   Hackers   3

And turn up the Chill they did as the Hackers could not contain the fire power this night. Led by rookie of the year candidate, well if we had such an award, Jeff "I'm Going To" Townley who started the game off with a natural hat trick and later added another goal and two helpers, this was so lopsided maybe we needed to turn the lights off for this one too!
The Hackers had their most dismal performance this season and recorded just 19 shots for the game. By far the lowest count this year. There are some questions surrounding the absence of team captain Craig "Beetle Juice" Beidler and the fact that he has not been at a game for some weeks now. Speculation is that he has been hired by someone to trap and return wayward pigeons. We called Craig to see what he had to say. "Well a few weeks ago I read an article somewhere about some guy who was getting into the pigeon business and was sending them out but not getting them back. I know how some folks can get attached to these things so I said 'Hey I might be able to make some fast cash on this thing' So I started a business on the side called "Pigeon Finders Inc.". To date I have only been able to recover these notes that say "Hey it's me Big Arms, we play at 8:30 this week". The good thing is that I have found them all in one spot, a dumpster in behind this ethnic buffet in Bayer's Lake, but I just can't seem to find the birds. Oh well I'll keep looking. The only thing this guy says is I have to look on Monday nights only. Don't know what that is about, but it almost seems like he has some other motives."
Well good luck with that Craig!

Finally we can keep this lights on!!!

Lynx  5    Sabres  5

So I finally get to report a real game that was exciting and had some big saves, did everyone hear that, big saves??? Some tight "D" and a few good goals to boot. This game started off with two quick goals by the Sabres. The Lynx answered back with a late period goal by jack of all trades and master of one Greg "Sully" Sullivan. The second period saw the Sabres score two more while the Lynx picked up another to to keep it close. The third started with the Lynx old timer neil "The Deal" Cameron scoring two quick ones and then new guy Jeff "Follow me I'm the" Sheppard adding another. It wasn't until late in the third that Devin "Pepsi" Maxwell coming fresh off his suspension scored the tying goal. The goalies at each end gave their teams a chance to win and it was just a great game all the way around. These teams are so balanced that you really couldn't pick one stand out...but you could pick two. Kane and Wynn were the players of the game here.

Trade deadline looming....

So once again, and I don't know why we bother cause no one ever has the guts to make a deal, the trade deadline is fast approaching. Blah, blah, blah, the chicken captains need to consider what they need to do to make their blah, blah teams blah blah better!
Ok, come off it guys. Will some one PLEASE make some sort of a deal! I have to report on these blow outs and no names week in and week out and it would be great to just once, JUST ONCE have some real news to report! A blockbuster trade that will go down in history as the first of it's kind. Heck I'll even throw a goal against me in the pot for good measure!
but in the unlikely event that this will ever happen, I'll make a few suggestions.

Titans trade Roger Park for Gordon Martell.
Sabres trade Tyler Morse for Mike Cogdon???
Fire trade Pierre Joyal for Martin Kane, some water bottles and some tape
Sabres trade Martin Kane for who ever they can get!!!
Fire Trade Johann Tienhaara for shares in Apple
Slayers trade Matt Grove, Gill Mombo and a first round pick for Jeff Shute and what is left of his pigeon collection...

So there you have it folks. All viable choices and no one will bite. Just watch.
Anyhow, that's all I got to say about dat!

So that's how I saw it this week. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember...
apparently pigeon tastes like chicken...what are you having for supper tonight???

So long and be well!
