Howdy, Doodey!

April 14, 2000
It was a record-breaking evening at the Needham Center last Thursday night as the AdcFhl entered the second week of the season. In the night's second game, it would be quite an understatement to say that LAN Hacker rookie Chris Doodey made an auspicious debut. In a 19-3 blowout over the Keane Fire, Doodey set the record for most goals scored in a game with 11 and tied the record for most points scored in a game with 13. With the Hackers down 1-0 early in the first, Doodey evoked memories of Bill Mosienko with 3 goals in under a minute. Fire goaltender Stephen Barriault withstood the barrage of 66 Hacker shots and mentioned the next morning "I can still taste the plastic".

The night had commenced with another record-setting affair when the winless Sunnydale Slayers faced-off against the winless Lite-Sabres. The Sabres, missing three top draft choices, physically wilted in the second and third periods as the Slayers amassed a mind-boggling 86 shots on goal, including 34 in each of the last two periods. Leading the way for the Slayers were the brothers Royal, who tallied 5 of the Slayers 8 goals. The Sabres were in the game until the end, but their personnel shortage combined with an in-game ankle injury to rookie forward John Stalker sealed their fate. The 86 shots on goal, as well as Sabres' goalie Chris McMaster's 78 saves were game records. It also marked the first game where both goalies (McMaster and the Slayers' Paul Chui), recorded save percentages over 90.

When asked about his performance by the AdcFhl on-site reporter, Sabres' goalie Chris McMaster responded, "Why am I talking to myself?"
