Make Em' Pay!
Slayers 12 Sabres 4
This game was the first meeting between these teams since the "Big" trade and there was fire some eyes as the ball dropped. John "The Potato" Couch was giving glares of death as he walked on the court and brought his usual feisty attitude along with his lightning speed and super hands. Matt "What Can I Do For You" Melady was his usual stoic self but you could see he was intent to show his old team that they made a mistake dealing the rookie away. Meanwhile, Colin "The Slickster" Sampson was a no show, maybe nerves??? Who knows. Roy "The Beast" Monk however showed up to play and brought his usual class and skill to help his new team.
This game was pretty much even until the ball dropped in the second period. Then "The Potato" took over and taught his former GM a lesson by scoring 4 goals and adding 2 assists. Kane didn't know what hit him. Actually this night not much did hit him. Maybe he should retire as he looks a bit shall we say "old" in there, but that is a story for another day. This was really all Slayers and I would say that they could be the team to beat right now.
We asked the Sabres brass how they felt about the trade. "We like our team. We just haven't been able to get everyone out. We are not a short bench team and after all is said and done, the only mistake we made was getting rid of Matt. Keep an eye on us because we aren't going any where."
In the end, the Slayers did their name proud and just wiped the Sabres off the floor tonight. A bit of revenge for the loss they suffered in their first meeting. A worth while note, the Slayers held the Sabres to just 28 shots, 14 of which came in the third.
Hot or Cold...take your pick!
Chill 11 Fire 10
So the question becomes how do you report on game which had 21 goals scored? Well, the first thing you say is Happy Birthday Blair "The Old Mare" Hammond! He spent his last day as a youngin' playing two games of hockey and play he did. Blair came up with some great saves in this one to give his team a chance at the win, but the Chill were just that much better this night and came out with the win.
Chill goalie had his team sitting on pins and needles as he was a last minute show, but held strong to get the "W". Everything was all tied up going into the third and it could have gone either way. The Fire were led by Captain Rob "T-Wrecks" Tyrrell who had a goal but polayed the part of passer and picked up six assists. The Chill were led by darren "Don't Ask me" Howie...ok that was a joke (sorry Darren). they were actually led by Cogdon, Cowie and Townley who each had 5 point nights. And guess what, not one penalty was called...which begs the question did anyone actually ref this game??
FYI, Darren Howie does not play for the Chill nor the Fire. He is a coveted member of the Titans.
Stop The Bleeding!!!
Tight Ends 11 Lynx 5
The proverbial "Tight Ends" survived an early game scare and just kept coming at the Lynx. Lynx goalie Tom "I'm Desperate For A" Wynn, did his usual magic and faced 65 shots, but just couldn't do it all, thus the loss. The Titans were down 3- 1 after the first but unleashed in the second for 5 goals and added 5 more in the third. There were penalties called in this one...7 in all, a couple of roughs and a slash here and a high stick there, but everyone walked away injury free. The Titans were led by their Captain Jeff "The Hog" Shute, who had 5 goals and 0 assists...funny thing eh? The Lynx were led by (see if you can figure this one out) Neil "Turn the" Cameron who had 2 goals...not much to cheer about for the Lynx here.
Dogs attack would be Hackers
Bulldogs 5 Hackers 3
Once again, Hacker goalie Jason "No Show" Boudreau bailed on his team just hours before the game. Not to say his reasons were not valid, but it is beginning to become a regular thing. hackers recruited the washed up keeper know only as "Candy" Kane and ended up loosing a close one. Both teams were short bodies, but long time league veteran and all time scorer "Darren Howie..Joking again, Tonnyyyyyy JOOOOYYYYYYCCCCCEEEEE score for the first time ever on Kane but did it three time...ok, it wasn't the first time ever, but it was his first hat trick against the washed up bum. Scott "I Always look like I'm" Cross scored 2 goals and had an assist, yes, you read this right, he had an assist.
So that's all we have from this week. The trade came back to haunt the Sabres, the pigeons came back for Shutter and we hope you will come back to read all about next week's games. And for all you "haters" out there, we'll leave you with this quote. "No one wants him, but he is drafted first every season...go figure"
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
