Cats Bare Their Teeth
Lynx 10 Fire 3
So the Lynx are trying to head into the post season with a few wins and withy a little help from their keeper Tom "I wanna" Wynn, they just might be a force to contend with. Wynn played another great game this past Monday and finally was rewarded by the rest of his team as they poured 10 goals into the Fire net.
The Fire on the other hand were little more than a fizzle as they could not contend with the cats. The Lynx, led by old man Neil Cameron, who had 5 goals but didn't pass the ball once, were trailing at the end of the first by a 1 - 0 tally. The Second period spelled the demise for the Fire as they were overcome with fear and just collapsed. We asked Fire Captain Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell about his teams performance. "Did you even see any of the game. they were ferocious! Snarling and hissing and running all over the place. Like I was scared! Literally scared! I hope we don't have to face those dudes again."
Thanks Rob. This leaves me with only one thing to say...here kitty kitty kitty!
Biedler Juice, Biedler Juice, Biedler Juice!
Hackers 8 Sabres 6
Once upon a time the mighty buffalo roamed the great plains of Halifax. Powerful beasts with large heads and broad shoulders, they soon met their match when the Hackers came to town! Led by Craig "Beetle Juice" Biedler who had 5 goals, they out hustled the lowly Sabres and despite the fact they were out manned on the benches. The bright spot for the Sabres was Devin "Pepsi" Maxwell who had two goals and a helper. A monster came out of the forest...Doug Forrest that is, as he and keeper Marty "The Party" Kane exchanged words over a botched play which cost their team not one, but two goals as the leagues most consistent ref, Rob "the Tyrant" Tyrrell dropped the ball when no one was looking allowing the Hackers to take control and score. This seemed to affect Forrest's demeanor as he took two penalties that seemed to stem from frustration.
By the way...those of you who read this earlier may have thought you were reading about bad refs...as you can see there is nothing about refs here at all...so you was just seeing things. For the record, the refs in this league are unsung heroes...all except that Kane guy.
Slayers Tie up the Dogs...literally
Slayers 8 Bulldogs 8
Well turning half a century has not slowed Blair "The Rockin' Chair" Hammond down one bit. He played another great game and gave his team more than a chance to win. Hammond faced 51 shots in this one and had his team in a position to add another "W" to their stats, but as every goalie knows, and some players just can't get, you need a team to play in front of you and the Bulldogs all seemed to just run away at the end of the game.
With less than 10 minutes to go, the Dogs were leading by three, but led by rookie of the year candidate, Matt "The Orange" Grove, who had 6 points in this one, mounted a huge comeback that saw them score the tying goal with 4 seconds on the clock. This sparked an outburst from Hammond who threw his stick and pushed his "D" man and exclaimed....that was your guy! Something that tends be heard from goalies in this league from time to time.
Although the Dogs played a great game, it was a huge let down at the end that cost them the win.
He Shutes he scores...and he even passes...
Titans 11 Chill 10
This game was a barn burner folks. Each team came out firing as arguably the two top teams in the league faced off against each other.
Led by team captain Jeff "My Arms are some big" Shute, who had 4 goals and 2 assists, the Titans won this game by scoring 3 unanswered goals in the third. Roger "The Ninja" Keating scored the winner.
The score sheet was completely a mess so the Chill may have come away thinking that they won, but who ever did the time for this game swapped the team names around and had the Chill being led by Jeff Shute while Cowie was heading up the Titans. Thus the Titans goals were marked down for the Chill and vice versa. After close examination, the error was discovered and this means that the Titans did in fact win this game by a score of 11-10.
We spoke with the league statistician and this is what he had to say. "Yea, this one was a bit of a mess, but after taking a look at things, for some reason the guy doing the score keeping scratched out the names and reversed them. Not sure why, but it means that the Titans have a lock on first place in their division and thus home court advantage through out the playoffs."
So here we are folks, heading into the last game of the season and the Bloomfield division is anybody's guess. At present the Sabres sit atop but this final week will decide who ends up where and the surging Slayers want to try and take first place. The Needham division is pretty much settled right now and not much that matters will change there.
So there you have it folks, that's how I saw it this week and if you saw it differently...well who cares cause I'm the reporter and you just read!
Have a great week and sorry for taking so long to get things up to date this week.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, hug you families folks. You may miss an opportunity you wished you had have taken!
Be Well!
