I'm Billy Concarney and this is my take on the upcoming 2011B Season that starts this coming Monday, September 12th. This one promises to be as exciting as any 2011B season could be with lots of new faces, old faces, old men and of course fat goalies.
The draft was held this past Tuesday at the Lion's Head and it proved to be quite interesting. As one of the captains said "That was quite interesting". The lottery was held at the start of the last pick up games, with Captain Craig "Beetle Juice" Beidler getting the coveted or cursed first pick. This has only proved to be a factor in who might win the championship a few times through out the leagues history. Once again, that big, fat, loud mouthed goalie, Marty "Candy" Kane was chosen first, against the advice of pre draft speculators who told him to load up on a big gun. Craig decided to use the pick to "beef" up his goaltending and one thing is for sure, with Kane in nets, there will be plenty of "beef" to go around.
which brings us to the state of goaltending here in the HFHL. This year will showcase the strongest line ups of goalies that the league has seen in a long time. The question will remain, does the team with the goaltending win or the team with the top forwards win.
If last years results were any indication, the forwards prevailed and that saw League Reigning GM Of The Year awards going to Captain Adam "Kapowie" Cowie. We asked Adam what he thought about last years team versus the team he chose this year. he had this to say. "Our team last year was well rounded, well not "rounded" like that Kane fellow, but well balanced. I managed to pick up the same keeper in John Rathbun. He helped us win the title last year so it was good to pick him up. we also have Matt Grove. He will take Cogdon's place as my right hand man. He has great hands and some great passing. All in all, I'm happy with my team's chances this year.
So I don't have enough time in the run of the night to go through all the teams so a quick look will sound like this.
Hackers
Biedler made the wrong move picking up Kane first. We all know you need scoring to win this league and Kane can't score! Place the Hackers fifth.
Bulldogs
Mark Thompson has a record of picking some mediocre teams and although he has some good guys there, I don't think they are a threat to win it all. Place the Dogs last...sorry boys.
Chill
Once again Adam Cowie has assembled a great team. Are they the best? Maybe, but I pick these guys to finish second.
Fire
Interesting picks by and interesting guy. Rob Tyrrell has had a knack for picking in the lower spots. He has a decent goalie this year in Ol' Man Hammond but I think the rest of the team will need to pull off a miracle if they have any chances of winning it all. I place theses guys third.
Lynx
Matt Monk has a lot of things on his mind these days. Picking a championship team was not one of them. If these rag tag group of misfits can gel, who knows what can happen. Goalie jason Boudreau can help you or hurt you, depends if he shows up or not. Roger "The Ninja" Keating will have to make the difference in order for these guys to get it done. I'm sorry guys, but I'm tagging you with seventh place
Sabres
Gill "the Magnificent" Mombo has one of the best goalies in the league backing him up. There is just not enough offence here to be the best. I pick these guys to finish sixth
Slayers
Like Mombo, he has a stellar goalie in Chris "Can't come up with a nickname" McKinnon. Go past that and he has some guys who can show you some spurts of greatness, but let's face it. You need more than spurts. Here you need gushers and they just don't have any of those. And if they do...I nor anyone else in the league wants to hear about it. These guys finish fourth
Titans
Ahhh, the mighty mighty Titans. Often brides maids but rarely the bride. But then again, who would want to marry these creeps anyway! Jeff "My Arms Aren't As Big As They used To Be" Shute has assembled what looks like a winning recipe. A little bit o' that, a little bit o" this and some HUGE fire power. There are unanswered questions here. Can Joyal carry the pressure of being expected to win EVERY SINGLE GAME YOU PLAY THIS YEAR! Oops, not trying to put pressure on the guy or anything... These guys are just too strong. I'm picking the Titans to win it all.
So there you have it folks. Looks like we might have some challenges out there now that the predictions are in. Just remember that you need all your money paid in full BEFORE you can PLAY YOUR FIRST GAME. No allowances made. Also need your wavers complete and handed in to our trusty Commish Johann.
Well I'm Billy Concarney and that's how it looks from here. If you don't like what I have to say here, then don't read it! Everything will always be in fun unless otherwise stated. you can always state your mind on the "Trash Talk Forum" so don't be shy.
Have a great rest of the week and remember, if pigs could fly...what a mess that would be!
Night all and be well.
