I'm Billy Concarney and this is your recap for the semi finals which took place Monday night at Stad Arena. So here goes nothin'!
It Was All A Ploy....
Hackers 5 Slayers 3
Well this was a shocker at the locker! The fans at Stad Arena witnessed another HUGE upset as the regular season whipping boys, The Hackers, continued to shock the world by pulling off yet another win in the post season. This time they knocked off the top team in the Slayers.
the Slayers jumped out in front with a 2 goal first period and things looked as though they would play into their favor. The Hackers, missing one of their big guns in Paul Connolly, just would not give up. The second period began with two goals from the Hackers to tie it up. Veteran Tony Joyce then picked off a pass and broke in all alone on Kane and then just made him look silly with a head fake and then a nice move to give himself the open net. Again, the Hackers clawed back and scored twice to head into the 3rd with a one goal lead.
The Slayers seemed to have lost their steam as they were looking rather lethargic while the Hackers brought their Spring Chicken Legs to this one and continued to run and play as they have never played this season. Leigh McCormick sealed the deal with the lone third period goal and that was all she wrote. Slayer keeper Chris McKinnon made some remarkable saves early on but the Hackers started to pick the spots higher in the net which seem to be left open due to McKinnon's style of play. We asked Hacker goalie his thoughts about this game. "Well, I would be lying if I said I expected us to be where we are right now, but i must say, the way the guys played tonight, they were as good as any team i have played for in this league. they never made a mistake, played their positions well and everyone played an important part in this win. I'm proud of these guys" And well you should be....well you should be.
Titans Still Have Not faced a regular Goalie
Titans 12 Sabres 8
The rumors are flying as for the second game of the play offs, the Titans have not had to face a "real" tender. Some folks think that they have arranged for their opposing goalies to take lavish trips like to Florida and Saint John new Brunswick. destinations that no one in their right mind would pass up.
In the absence of Tom Wynn, Peter "Red Light" Rankin dawned his gear and stood in the cross hairs of the Titans and did the best he could under the circumstances. facing 48 shots from arguably one of the best teams on paper, it was inevitable that the Titans would prove to be too much. Led by their captain Jeff "My Arms Aren't As Big As They Were" Shute scored 6 goals and added 2 helpers and Donnie "The Bomb" Bailey who had 3 goals and a helper, this was really no contest. Pierre Joyal played his usual game and turned in a performance consistent with his play all year. A great game all the way around.
So the finals are set. the two worst teams in the regular season will square off to decide who is worthy of the HFHL cup. i would like to say this one will come down to goaltending, but that would be a lie. I would like to say that this will come down to a coin toss, but that would make for a short game. So I will say that this will come down to one team out scoring the other. Funny how that works. the team that scores the most goals wins. No pigeons, not Beetlejuice, no Couch Potatoes, No Big Hair...just raw talent or luck, which ever works best for you. One thing for sure, both these teams need kudos for being where they are. That being said, I believe that i called the Titans in the finals and actually picked them to win it all as they have a real edge in the offensive end of the game, and Oh are the offensive. Ever stand by one of those guys after a game? Whewwweeeee!
Anyhow, congrats to both teams and lets see what happens next week.
So that's it folks. Everyone can go back to work and get it done until next Monday when we crown the winner of the 2010 "B" season. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, he who laughs last probably didnt even hear the joke right, he just didn't want to look stupid...not that this has ever happened to me, well not really anyhow...oh, good bye already!
Be well folks
