1st round wrap up

December 4, 2019
hi folks. This will be a short wrap up of the first round.

Lynx vs Slayers

First game of the night saw second place slayers face off against the fifth place Lynx.
Lynx forward Chris Innis opens the scoring. Then Gerard Gouthro gets sent to the sin bin for a high stick. That cost the Lynx as Eric Gale capitalized on a pass from Murphy to even it up. Alex Gale finished the first period scoring on a pass from Shane Erb and its 2-1 Slayers after the first. Lynx holding on.
Second period was allSlayers. Murphy from Eric Gale, Alex Gale from Eric Gale and Shane Erb from...Eric Gale.
5-1 after the second.
Last period was close as the lynx fought hard to try and keep pace. Joe Murphy scored his second from Wade Mullen. The Lynx did manage to notch one more on a stubborn Paul Highmore when Innis recorded his second from Paul Chang. But that was all she wrote and the Slayers took this one 6-2. Highmore had 45 shots and if he had not played as he did, this could have easily been a different outcome. Slayers move on.

Chill vs Hackers

This game saw the 1st place Hackers hosting the last placed Chill.
1st period...Matt Strum opens scoring with first shot on net. Second shot on net is again from Strum, and he gives the Chill an early 2 zip lead. But Jonathan Hunson scored two off of passes from Cooper and Mike Collier. After the first, it’s all tied at 2.
Second period saw Kevin Shite give the Chill a lead off a pass from Rob Terrell. This could be an upset in the making...
But not really...from here it was all Hackers. Hudson’s scored 4 more goals and Cooper closed it off.
Bob Strum stood on his head as he faced 55 shots.
All said and done, Hackers move on after winning 7-3

Fire vs Sabres

Last game of the night saw the 3rd and 4th seeds facing off. The Sabres came out hard and fast scoring 3 early. But the Fire “Fired” right back with three of their own. This was going to be a seesaw battle for sure. But Wayne Hardy scored a goal to end the period and after the first we had the Sabres up 4-3.
The second saw the Fire come out hot as Sampson and Snook opened up with back to back tallies. But Andrew O’Keefe responded with two goals to end the period and this was shaping up to be a doozy of a third period. Sabres up 6-5 after the second.
Last period was a fight as the Fire captain Sean Fitzpatrick scored first. Sabres followed up with a goal by Kyle Bradbury from Wayne Hardy. Fire responded when Jordan Castilloux scored a nice one unassisted and it was all even. Bradbury and Hardy teamed up again and gave the Sabres the lead.
Last minute of play, Fire pull their goalie for the extra man. Clock is ticking and then Aaron Brown send s a pass to Chris Sampson who buries one to even things up and this one was headed to overtime.
Overtime solves nothing...as they never played it! At this point both teams were moving on so they went right to the shoot out. The Fire were blanked as Burgoyne stood his ground. Larder stayed strong as well, but Alex Murphy grabbed the winner and this one needed nothing else as the Sabres downed the Fire 9-8.

So the semi finals look like this
Fire vs Hackers @ 7:30
Sabres vs Slayers @ 8:30

Thanks and be well peeps!
