But you know what they say, abstinence makes the heart grow fonder!
So with out any more hoopla, here is a view going into the last game of the regular season.
so the season has had many changes. Some of which have had profound affects on teams.
Let's start with the Titans.
Going into the last game of the season, they are an even 4 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie. team GM Jeff "My Arms Are Some Big" Shute has been running from the "draft demons" so to speak, since the get go. Some questioned his first round choice but when we asked him about it he had this to say.
"Too late now right?" The Titans will be in deep as the face off against the Fire this coming Monday. Which way will they fall...winning season or losing season. Time will tell.
So then let's look at the Fire. After draft night, Fire GM Rob "The Rhino" Tyrrell must have been pretty confident with his team. he had a top three goalie, great supporting cast and he finally looked like he was going to have a great chance at winning it all. The Fire did little more than fizzle this season. With one game left, they find themselves with 3 wins and 6 losses. The Fire are looking forward to ending the season on a winning note by defeating the Titans tomorrow evening. If all goes as it should, they should have no problem with the Mighty "T's"
The Sabres are a team on the move. Which direction is any one's guess, but following a week 5 blow up, the team saw new management step up and some new blood was injected into the team. Scott "The Shot" Cross has taken a hold of the the team and they have been decent under his reign. With new guy Peter Hiltz and Shaun Goodwin, the team has some needed speed up front and a boomer from the point. Jason "boom Boom" Boudreau has been spotty in nets but he will be the key in the post season. The Sabres close out their season facing off against the winless Bulldogs. The Sabres sit on a record of 3 wins and 6 losses but that should change after tomorrow...I guess it has to eh?
So why don't we look at the toothless Bulldogs. Now this is a pretty hard one to figure out. Mark Thompson was feeling pretty good about his chances after the draft. had a great team of roll players led by Neil "Rin Tin" Cameron. But Cameron was a no show for the better part of the season and the dogs just could not get rolling this season. With some internal bickering of sorts about who was running and who was watching, there just never seemed to be a "gellin'" so to speak. Oh well, I guess after last season, no team is ever out of the running for the championship right? Remember the Hackers...
So let's move on to the Hackers shall we. Dave "Super" Cooper is in his first season as GM. He put together some top names and with the loss of new guy Dave Bergman, he was able to acquire Ian "Bravo" Claveau for a song. I'm not sure what song he sang, but rumor has it that Johann T requested something by Def Leppard and Dave began playing the drums with one arm. The Hackers are just that, hackers. they are fumbling their way along and so far their record is 2 wins, 6 losses and 1 tei. Quite a surprise when you look at the team. I guess maybe names don't mean you have chemistry. They finish the season out by facing the power house Slayers. They have the potential to pull off an upset so let's see what they have in store.
Next we'll look at the Slayers. This si a team that has been put together by GM Barry "I Know I Am" Coolen. A consistant Gm, Barry seems to put the regular season winners together, but has a hard time doing the dance in the play offs. This year might be different. They seem to over run their competition and light it up in the first two periods. With the big leads they have, it is pretty hard to come back in the third. Their weakness is their goaltending. Old Man Kane, or Qwai Chang as his avid followers call him, doesn't seem to have the game this year to step in when needed...or at least that's what the Chill keep saying. The Slayers sit atop their division with an 8 win and 1 loss record. They finish against the Hackers.
Did I hear someone say the Chill? These guys are the real deal. Team Gm Adam "Don't Have a" Cowie has put together another tough team. With long time league scoring leader Tony "RE" Joyce, the Chill have been freezing out the competition all season. they too have one loss and sit on top of their division with an 8 win and 1 loss record. If any team can figure out how to stop Cowie from scoring at will in the third, then maybe they can be beat. Time will tell. they finish the season out Monday night against the Lynx.
Now, that leaves us with the Lynx. the Lynx saw their season turn around when they picked up goalie Blair "Rockin' Chair" Hammond. He has played the best he has ever played. there are rumors of maybe some bionics being used in his absence after a serious accident at work. Blair has silenced the skeptics, with the exception of marty "the Party" as no one can silence that guy. the thing that haunts the Lynx is what happens when they face the Big Guys. They sit on a record of 6 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties. We will see what they are made of tomorrow night.
So that's it in short...or in long depending how much you read. One thinsg for sure, the play offs are looking rather interesting. I'll do a pre play off prediction after this weeks games.
That's all for now and here's something to think about.
Why do they call it a TV set when there is only one? How is it that your nose runs and your feet smell, and the best one...why do they have brail on the keys at the drive up ATM... things that make you go hmmmmm!
Be well Folks!
