Halifax Floor Hockey League
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mark "The Spark" Thompson.
Mark passed away Sunday evening as a result of a courageous battle with cancer. He was a friend to many of us in the league and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Mark was one of the most tenacious defence men to ever play in the league. To say he had spunk was an understatement. He served as a captain for a few years before retiring.
Mark played 129 games and amassed 112 goals and 162 assists. He was as fast as lightening and played with more heart than you could imagine.
To honour his memory, the league is creating a new award. It will be called the "Mark Thompson Heart Award".
This will be given to the player who shows commitment and dedication to his team throughout the season. It will be given to someone who gives 110% each and every game and does not give up under any circumstances. They don't have to be the best player on the floor, just the one that exhibits the most heart. Just like Mark did every time he stepped on the floor.
Please join us in keeping his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers as they begin a healing process.
Mark Thompson, we solute you. You were a good man and will be sadly missed.
Rest In Peace
