New Players, New Teams Highlight Draft Day

The first ever league expansion teams begin the construction of their franchises yesterday at the 2000B Draft. Both teams fared well, snaring many experienced stars and top prospects alike. After the four existing teams protected two players each, the expansion teams were allowed to select two players from the remaining pool of talent. After those selections, the draft settled into its regular order. First pick belonged to the Lite-Sabres, second went to the Sunnydale Slayers, third pick was the Fire's, fourth and fifth picks went to the expansion teams the Lynx and the Chill respectively and the final selection went to the three-time defending champions, the LAN Hackers.

Action begins tonight at the Needham Center, but the following night will see the league expand to the YMCA on South Park Street. Many veterans will remember a few clashes at the "Y" prior to the formation of the league. Some are predicting that certain teams will favour one venue or the other based on the style of play they employ. An fit, offensive team, for example, may prefer the larger arena whereas a more defensive team might favour smaller confines.
