Halifax Floor Hockey LeagueThe draft was held on Friday January 16th and it was deep as deep could be for talent.
We have a few new guys, some guys from last year and some guys from tester year. Could be an interesting season.
We were able to catch up with league Commissioner Marty "The Party" Kane and asked him a few questions.
Billy : So Marty, this is your 4th or 5th season as commish...how do you see things going this year?
Marty: Well Billy, we are looking forward to another fun and competitive season. The talent pool was deep this year...although some captains managed to stray into the shallow end during the draft. But by and large it could be anyone's guess as to who will emerge as the dominant team
Billy: Can you tell us if there is anything new this season?
Marty: Well, we are starting the season out with the challenge of not having "big blue" which means that we have to make do with what we have so to speak regarding set up to divide the gym. Our league engineering department has come up with a great alternative until we are able to get the wall back
Billy: are there any new rules?
Marty: Well, we have decided that if anyone gets stupid and challenges another player to physical confrontation, that they will automatically be given a double minor. We don't want any goofy stuff and so we thought it was fair to implement this
Billy: What about league fees and all that jazz?
Marty: Same as always. No pay...no play. Everyone must sign a waiver and make sure that they pay their fees of $50 prior to stepping on the floor. No exceptions. Might mean that we are a little slow this week to start it off, but such is how it goes.
Well that is about all we have this week. The league starts on Monday the 19th and we will keep things up to date on our end.
