Enough Already! Week 2 recap

October 25, 2022
Heidi Ho neighbours! This is Billy Concarney here bringing you the latest and greatest from all around the HFHL. Here is your week 2 recap.

Sabre vs Slayers

Ok, so enough already! See, one of the problems when you have an offensive power house is that you score wayyyyy too many goals for me to put pen to paper to recap. For all you youts…a pen is a writing utensil filled with ink and paper is what you write on. It’s made from trees…oh dang, I’m in trouble now.
Seriously, Matt Strum is tearing it up so far this season and his buddy Jeff Withers is hot on his heals. These guys combined for 22 pts last night as they took the edge off the Sabres quickly and often. Sabres captain Kyle Bradbury didn’t have a shabby night either as he collected 6 goals and a helper, but it was all Slayers as they took this one 19-10

Chill vs Hackers

Well finally! A game with a hockey score!
This game saw the Hunsonless Hackers squaring off against the speedy Chill. The Chill opened the scoring when Wes Cook grabbed an errant fumble and snapped a shot past Bob Strum to take a 1 zip lead. A few minutes later, Hacker captain Joe Murphy ripped a shot past Adam Larder off a pass from Geoff Briggs and this one was all square atone.
Fast forward to the second period. New guys Shannon Thoms gave the Chill the lead on a nice pass from Wes Cook. This was followed up by Cameron Power’s first of the night when he tapped a nice one in on a pass from Shannon Thoms. The Chill were up 3-1 headed into the third.
The third period saw the Hackers turn up the heat as they fired 20 shots at Larder. Chill captain Rylan Smith took a tumble as he tried to beat Bob Strum and in doing so landed on his shoulder. He left the game but thankfully after some quick physio…well, ok he moved it and it popped back in place, he was ok and showing signs of recovery.
Meanwhile Geoff Briggs grabbed his second of the night on a feed from Liam McLeod, who was heard whispering “take that Myles Raymond” as he feathered the pass through. Don’t know what that’s all about but anyway…
The Hackers were within in one, and team captain Joe Murphy took a pass from newbie D man Dan Carver and sprinted in splitting the D and shovelling a nice deke past Larder and this one was all tied at 3. That’s how it ended and kudos to both goalies. larder and Strum played great games to keep their teams in this one. Great game all around!

Fire vs Lynx

The last match up of the night saw the Fire heading into the Lynx Den. Both of these teams lost their season openers and wanted to get on track. The first period saw the Lynx dominate as they opened up with 4 unanswered goals. Whidden from O’Keefe, Erb from MacIsaac, Mackinnon from Tyrrell and then Miller from Mackinnon. Fire captain Alex Gale tried to stop the bleeding as he closed out the scoring for the period on a pass from Liam Oxner. 4-1 after the first for the Lynx.
The second saw the Lynx come out firing as the scored 3 more. Erb from O’Keefe, then Justin Mackinnon picked up two in a row to give him a sweet little hatty both on feeds from Stu Whidden. The Fire answered back with Alex Gale scoring his second from Oxner, and then Oxner grabbing his first of the night on a pass from Mike Giles. Andrew O’Keefe notched one from Mike Collier and Fire grabbed another one with Oxner scoring his second on a power play, Mike Giles again getting the helper. 8-4 for the Lynx headed into the 3rd.
Rickie Miller scored the first goal of the period all on his lonesome, but the Fire stayed hot when Alex Gale grabbed his third of the night from a great pass from Anil Snook. But the Lynx D tightened up and they kept a coming and we’re rewarded with 4 more goals. MacIsaac from Whidden, Tyrrell from Whidden, O’Keefe from Erb and lastly MacIsaac from Mackinnon. This one ended up 13-5 for the Lynx as they looked much better than the first night.

Well that’s how it looked from here folks. The games were very well played without any shenanigans and the league brass are very pleased about that.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, watch your thoughts when you’re by yourself and your words when you’re with others!
Have a great week peeps. Be well
