Chill vs Slayers
The Slayers were coming off their OT victory against the Fire last week and were ready to get er’ done. The Chill once again had nearly a full squad and were raved up and ready.
The first period was even stevens as each team scored 3 goals. The Chill took a 2 goal lead quick when Rylan Smith grabbed his first of the game on a pass from “Downtown” Aaron Brown followed by Cam “The Tower of” Power zinging a shot past Boudreau on a pass from late replacement Adam Mackenzie. But Matt Monkscored a goal from way back due to an unbelievable screen duck from Chris Inness. The assist on that went to Withers. The Matt Strum said “don’t forget about me” and evened things up on a feed from Chris Inness. The Chill took the lead back when Mackenzie scored from Power, but it was short lived as Strum tallied for the second time from Monk.
Second period was a battle. Jason Boudreau was standing in his head and this kept things close with the Chill only netting two for the period. Mackenzie from Power and then Mackenzie from Smith. But Chris Inness answered back for the Slayers and they were still within striking distance. 5-4 Chill after two.
The third saw the Chill come out like a skate blade on ice, flying here there and everywhere and BOOM!!!
Mackenzie from Power, Warren Churchill from Downtown Brown, Cam Power from Mackenzie, DeSousa all alone and the Mackenzie from DeSousa. Like that it was 10-4…The Slayers tried to mount a come back as Strum grabbed a pair consecutively from Trevor Thompson and Matt Monk, but not enough…Power answered back with two of his own on passes from Rylan Smith and Adam Mackenzie and ding ding ding….we got a game! Chill advance to the finals with a score of 12-6. Adam Mackenzie made off with this week’s player of the week award and earns a trip to Timmy’s that won’t come out of his pocket!great job Adam
Fire vs Lynx
The Fire were missing Lobster Man Mark Duggan, and the Lynx were missing Jason MacIsaac. So 7 aside and no excuses…
Lynx opened the scoring when Justin Mackinnon scored from Stu Whidden.
Liam Oxner upped his fees for next season when he scored on Kane to even it up. He took a pass from Eric Gale.
Matt Grove gave the Lynx the lead once again on a feed from Andrew O’Keefe but that was short lived as Stephen Combdon got a lucky goal on a pass from Gale. Anil Snook gave the Fire the lead on a pass from Oxner. The. mark Slaunwhite decided to make a forward dash and was rewarded with his first of the night on a pass from Anil Snook. And just like that period one came to a close with the Fire heating up and taking a 4-2 lead.
The second saw Andrew O’Keefe score on a pass from Grove to get within one. But Mark Slaunwhite scored his second from Eric Gale. They were the only goals scored in the second and it was 5-3 after two.
The Fire came out just like their name …ON FIRE BABY…starting with Slaunwhite scoring his third to complete the Hatty, once again from Eric Gale. Then Liam and Anil teamed up as Liam Oxner grabbed his second. Alex Gale the hogged the ball twice and was rewarded with two unassisted beauties . StuWhidden took a pass from Justin Mackinnon to see if the Lynx could claw their way back into this, but no said Eric Gale as he high sticker his was to the net and high stocked the ball in ! Ok, he didn’t high stick anything lol…but that’s an inside joke.
Matt Grove netted his second on a pass from Justin Mackinnon but by this time, the Fire were on their way to the big dance. They took this one by a score of 10-5.
