Fire vs Sabres
The Sabres were coming into this with a full squad for the first time in a long time and the Fire were looking to heat up to end the season.
This one was a close one and the Sabres were playing great in the first. Despite going down one nothing quickly, they fought hard and were rewarded with two goals and held that lead until 2 seconds left in the period when someone…not naming names…gave the ball away and Liam “1 for 10” MacLeod absolutely RIPPED a slap shot past a bewildered Marty Kane to tie it up.
The second saw the Fire take an early period lead but the Sabres kept at it and were rewarded with three more goals. This gave them a 2 goals lead heading into the third.
Well…there is always a third right? And sometimes they can go your way…and other times not so much. Well, we had both happen. For the Fire…everything went their way…passes from each other, passes from the Sabres. And on the other side, things did not go well for Marty Kane. He made some saves, but could not make enough and the Fire grabbed 4 quick goals to erase the deficit and then some. The Sabres tried to get back in it but it just wasn’t happening.
Alex Gale recorded a hat trick and the Fire took this one 8-6.
We asked an old church lady what her thoughts were about this game, she said “ Oh dear, this was a show o& generosity by that team in white, the Slabers were they? We have invited a couple of the guys to come and work our next raffle…because it was obvious that they have kind hearts and like to …well… give stuff away”
Thanks Old Church Lady!
Slayers vs Hackers
This one was going to b an entertaining affair. We knew that from the get go. Both teams have great tending and are loaded with talent. Matt Strum is a great guitar player and Joe Murphy can dance up a storm. But we aren’t here to talk about those talents are we. Let’s see what unfolded on the floor!
The first period saw the the Slayers D man, Trevor “Retro” Thompson, who parked his old wooden Sherwood stick and brought out a new fangled composite and he was quick to notch his first goal with it on a pass from Matt “ Guitar man” Strum. Jeff Withers then scored from Brett Dempsey but Joe “Bojangles” Murphy ripped a wrist shot from wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in his own end….did I say it was way back in his own end? Beating an unsuspecteding, er at least that’s what I heard, Bobby Strum to stay within a goal. But as has happened time and time again, and again, and again, Matt bailed his old man out and the Slayers were up by two after the first.
The second was quiet as each team scored a goal. The Hackers Brotherly Duo, Sheamus and Ben MacDonald teamed up for one and then Jeff Withers and Eddie Briggs paired up to score for the Slayers. 4-2 after the second.
Third…well, it went as it typically does for the Slayers. The Hackers brought it within one when Joe “Bojangles” Murphy blew a slap shot past Strum on a pass from “Little” Stevie Combdon but Brett “got some hands” Dempsey scored two in a row on feeds from Matt Strum and Mike Collier. Geoff Briggs then scored a “magic goal” from behind the net on a pass from Duggan. We still don’t know how that went in…but we do know that Bob would not look at us after it happened…that was funny. Strum and Dempsey combined for another Slayers goal before Myles Raymond connected on a pass from Murphy and slapped a gargantuan slapper like he never slapped before! Even better than MacLeods one! Yes it was! But then Strum scored a natural hat trick with three in a row…blah blah blah. Slayers dominate and double up 10-5 on the Hackers. Matt Strum played a tune tonight called “5 Goals and 2 Helpers”
Chill vs Lynx
Lynx were looking to get back to their winning ways and it looked like it could be easily done tonight against a short benched one sub Chill team. But will it be that easy?
Lynx opened the scoring when Stu Whidden scored on a pass from Johann “The Running Man” Tienhaara and they were off to the races. But sometimes a team can start out strong and it might seem that they will easily win that race…but these guys have not run against the likes ok duh, duh, duh duhhhhhh…Alex “The Cannon” DeSousa and Greg “The Feeder” Wheaton.
I’m not breaking this entire game down, but I’m just gonna say that theses two guys single handedly took out the Lynx.
Greg was slashing and dashing like never before in his rookie season here at the HFHL and tallied a total of not one, not two, not three, not four but yes five helpers.
DeSousa, well he unleashed a barrage of point zingers that caught everyone off guard as he ripped 5 goals past Kennedy and added two helpers. I mean dont get me wrong, the Lynx played a good game and Spencer Foulkes ,despite wearing that awful shirt, scored a beauty of a goal while in flop drop and roll mode, but the Chill stepped up and everyone contributed to the win. Rylan Smith had four goals. Liam Oxner had a couple. And when the final whistle sounded, the Chill had thumped the Lynx 11-6. Alex DeSousa’s performance has earned him this weeks Knapper Player of the Week Award. Great game Alex.
Well that’s all I got. Hope you all have a great week.
