We Are Headed To The Big Dance

May 22, 2023
Hello boys and girls, ladies and gents!
My name is Billy Concarney andI head up the HFHL news for…you guessed it, the HFHL. Here is the week 10 wrap up and the upcoming play-off scenario.

Chill vs Slayers

The Slayers were looking to clinch home ice advantage heading into the playoffs while the Chill were trying to finish off the season with an “we can hang with anyone” statement.
Well, without too much fan fair, let’s just call this one “The Strum Show” as the Strum father and son duo took their team to the finish line by scoring 8 goals and making 45 saves. It was like a Matt Strum goal scoring sandwich, he scored the first 4 of the game, then the last 3 of the game and had a small one in the middle. Add a side helping of everyone else sprinkled with a lot of saves and you have just served up the regular season Champions Platter Baby!
The Chill did their best to keep things cool, but the Slayers dominated by a score on 10-5.

Hackers vs Fire

The Hackers have a great team on paper but have been struggling to put it together. Maybe tonight? The Fire wanted to finish with a win and try and set the tone for a post Covid championship repeat.
Well, we saw another show tonight…it was the Adam MacKenzie and Alex Gale show…
They combined for 14 pts tonight and could really be the leagues best line combo when the chips are down. They scored 8 of the teams 10 goals and gave the Fire a lot of heat as they scorched the Hackers 10-4.

Lynx vs Sabres

Now this is pretty sad. Last game of the regular season and the Sabres goalie…Marty Kane…most career games, most career wins, best career save %, most career cups, most shots faced, most saves, most shut outs…is sitting on the sidelines reffing/time keeping which may have been his last opportunity to play in the HFHL…all because not one person would step up to help out in the last game. Pretty sad. But the show must go on and the only option is to cancel the final game of the night. Pretty sad indeed.

Well, enter Jason Boudreau. Glove flashing, pad stacking kind of save making extraordinaire! Well…not tonight. In fact ain’t nobody saving this train wreck of a season the Sabres have had. They got walloped by the Lynx. Spencer Foulkes with his stinky Habs shirt and Shane Erb with his fantastic hands. Stu Whidden looking in fine form as well…they just dominated. And speaking of domination…Jason MacIsaac had a game to remember scoring 4 goals and adding a helper. And for this reason, Jason is this weeks Knapper Player of the Week. Way to go Jason!

We also want to say a huge congrats to Matt Strum for finishing atop of the scoring race with 53 pts and Bob Strum for leading the way in the goaltending department with an .858 save %. Way to go guys. As a result of their efforts, both players will have their league fees for the fall season covered. Congrats again to the both of you!

So that was the week…let’s look at the playoffs match ups.

The final standings are as follows:

Slayers
Lynx

Chill
