So without any further yakking…here we go!
Slayers vs Fire
Fire were all stoked up and ready to burn the Slayers, but the Slayers weren’t in the mood for any heat tonight!
From the drop of the ball this one was all Slayers. They threw a barrage of shots at Bob Strum in the 1st, twenty to be exact and these were all good scoring chances. As a result they grabbed a 7-1 lead and that pretty much summed it up. They added 5 more in the second this time on 27 shots. It wasn’t until the third that the Fire started throwing some shots at Kane and they were rewarded 4 times. Unfortunately, the Slayers added four more to their totals and when it was all said and done, Slayers dosed the Fire 16-5. Bob Strum had a whopping 61 shots on him and sorry to say, but his team left him hanging like a load of wash on Summers day in Codroy!
Notables were Mark Duggan with 3 goals and 3 helpers but the big dog finally showed up as Matt Strum grabbed 6 goals and an assist.
Hackers vs Lynx
Both of these teams have look awesome the first two weeks and this game was gonna be a close one for sure. They traded two goals a piece in the first but the
Unix took a quick lead in the second when Stu Whidden beat Kevin Kennedy short side on a feed from Shannon Thoms. But the Hackers stormed right back with four unanswered goals , three of which came from the stick of Kyle Bradbury and the Hackers were up 6-3 after two.
The third saw the Lynx tear into that lead with four unanswered goals of their own and just like that they had the lead back. But the Hackers battled hard and Kyle scored his fourth of the night from Myles Raymond to even it all up.
So we get to the end of it all, or so it seemed. You know they old saying, just fire it at the net…well Joe Murphy did just that and on a freak play the ball got knocked into the net by one of the Lynx players and that was pretty much at the buzzer.
A bit of bad luck or good luck depending where you sit.
hackers grab the win 8-7. Both goalies played great and stopped 31 shots. Notables in this one were Dan “The Man” Carver who had a hat trick and an helper while Kyle Bradbury who tallied 4 times . Myles Raymond had a very rare 4 pt night as well….very rare in deed.
Sabres vs Chill
The Chill were down team Captain Rickie Miller and vet D man Ryan Milligan while the Sabres were missing their new guy Steve Hawco.
Ball dropped and the Chill came out quick and they grabbed 3 goals. But….the story of the first period was the stellar play of Craig “The Gargoyle “ Burgoyne who turned aside 25 shots.
The Sabres kept coming and power forward Rylan Smith scored two to start the second. But the Chill didn’t let up and they rattled off three more and after the second, had a 6-2 lead.
The third saw Smith get a natural hat trick as he scored his third in a row for the Sabres. The Chill answered back and this one was looking pretty bad for the Sabres at this point. But Rylan Smith was going to keep coming as he added two more for 5 in a row and all the sudden we might have a game. 30 seconds left, Anil Snook takes things on his shoulders and rips a nice shot past Burgoyne, who was putting on a clinic all night long.
We aren’t sure what happened after that, but for some reason the Chill D were playing high on the face off and with a burst of speed and a bit of hard work, Jonathan Hunson scooped up a rebound and evened it all up very late in the game. The bell sounded and I heard a fat lady singing off in the distance and that meant this one was all over and ended in a 7-7 tie.
Notables in this one were Rylan Smith who had 5 goals but the big dawg in this one was Craig Burgoyne. He stood on his head at times and faced 55 shots. It was a great bounce back week for him for sure.
This weeks Knapper Player of the Week is Matt Strum. He had 7 points on the night. As a reward, he will get Jeff Withers Knapper T-Shirt because he didn’t show up tonight. Oh well…
Well that’s it folks . Hope you all have a great week and thanks for tuning in to another chapter of the HFHL News.
This is Billy Concarney saying so long, stay safe and be well!
