Week 7 Reality Check

November 7, 2023
THE GAMES FOR NOV 13TH ARE ON AS SCHEDULED

Hey everyone.
So here is a bit of a realty check.
We have had a great season so far, but last night was a bit too much garbage.
The first game went off without a hitch. The next two, well not so much.
We have had some trouble getting refs the last few weeks, so we get one VOLUNTEER who steps up to do it. That guy allowed you to play your game last night. He didn’t walk on the floor with a hidden agenda or some kind of vendetta that had it out for your team.
He took his time to stay and ref a game in a whiffle ball league.
IF you think that guys are cheating when they call the games, then maybe rethink things. If a whistle goes before the ball is in the net, then the goal does not count. Pretty simple. Yelling at the ref or trying to blame a member of the other team is not warranted. If the ref deems that the net was off before you scored a goal, then it is not a goal. Again yelling at the red or a guy on the other team does not accomplish anything.
Taking cheap shots and getting called for it is on you. Not the ref. Guys, take ownership of your own story here. Stop trying to blame the guy who shows up to do the best he can to call a game…especially when you don’t contribute in that process at all.
This is my last season playing in the HFHL. I have played 464 games in this league. I have had a great run and will miss this more than any of you will know.
That being said, I have every intention of continuing to run the league. But I need to ask one thing of you all…and myself, let’s keep this fun and not turn it into a place where our aggression materializes on the floor.
I appreciate that it is not a perfect league, but we try to give you all a place to play, get a work out and hopefully have some fun along the way. Someone is going to win and someone is going to lose. But no one is ever going to intentionally try to change the outcome of a game, at least on the officiating side of things.
So let’s take the week to reset.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you all have a great week.
Be well,

Marty “Concarney “ Kane
