Feel The Burn- Fire vs Bulldogs
Well the Dogs were missing one of their key components in Trevor "The Law Man" McGuigan...but that just meant that someone would have to step up...enter one Evan "I'm Tight" White. Facing the hotter than hot, and we don't mean looks, Fire, the Dogs had their work cut out for them. The Fire, sporting two of the leagues top D men as well as the league's all-time scoring leader, Rob "the Rhyno" Tyrrell, were ready to take it to the Dogs. The Fire were without the league's top tender to date, Darren "The Bear" Smith who was out with an upper body injury that required major surgery...but he should be back next week. Ok he just had his wisdom teeth removed...but the injury/surgery thing was more exciting!
Anyhow, back to the game. This one saw both teams trading goals in the first and oddly enough, they were both short handed.
the second saw Evan "I'm Tight" White step it up as he scored two of his three and at the end of the second, the Dogs had a 4-2 lead. Could this be the first loss of the season for the Fire? Not if The Rhyno had anything to do with it. The Fire came out strong and led by Tyrrell's two goals in the period, the Fire managed to hang on to a 5-4 lead and squeak out their 3rd win of this early season. Call up for the injured Smith, came in the form of Marty "the Party" Kane who made some key saves late in the game to preserve the win. This was a fun game to play and a great game to have on TSN2...but they wouldn't show up so we just have to use our imaginations.
The Fire take this one 5-4
Our First Win?
Lynx vs Sabres
Both of these teams are were looking for their first win of the season. This could have easily been the case...except for a couple of great games played by two stingy goalies in Craig "the Gargoyle" Burgoyne and Chris "the Big C" MacKinnon.
Both of these guys made some great saves and really gave their teams a chance to win...or tie, depending how you look at it.
Nothing too much to report as there were no dominant players on either side....except the goalies. And did I say that the goalies played out standing? Well in case I didn't, they did.
After all the blah blah blah's, this game ended in a 4-4 tie. It was a good game for both teams. Maybe we can mention that Jenna "The Mounty" Briggs picked up her second tally of the season. Way to go Jenna!
Was anyone at the draft?
Chill vs Slayers
Ok, so if you were, you would recall that there was some concern in the Slayers organization about where their team might fit in. Well after the first two games, they were 2 and 0. A surprise to many...including the teams top brass...or copper maybe.
So up next for the Slayers were the highly talented but under performing Chill. With names like Keven "Son of Rob" Pittman, Jono "The juggernaut" Darnborough and Kevin "Yea right" Shute...anyone should be scared...ok maybe concerned? Ok maybe not. But they have a great team none the less.
This game started out pretty close. The Slayers scored first when rookie Trevor "The Blazer" Wadden ripped a snap shot high in the top right corner to set the pace. But the younger Pittman stepped in and tied it up after she guy was running around not paying attention and inadvertently kicked the ball to Pittman (See Handsom and Stoopid Comic)
The second saw the Chill rely on the tending of rookie goalkeeper Dan "The Man" Nauss, who played a great game by all accounts. He held his team in there during the barrage of shots he faced in the second. At the end of the second, the game was still close with the Slayers holding on to a slim one goal lead of 3-2.
But, unfortunately for the Chill, the third came along and there is only so much a goalie can do...
The Slayers dominated the third and scored 5 unanswered goals to walk away with this game. Led up front by Mark "The Ark" Duggan, who had 4 goals and an assist and "The Blazer" Wadden, who picked up two goals and 2 assists, the Slayers picked up their third win in as many games to start the season.
Slayers take this one 8-2
The Three Amigos Strike Again!
Titans vs Hackers
Ok, lets face it, the Titans have two of, if not the two best shots in the league from the point in Scott "Rocketsauce" Cross and Shaun "Goody Goody Yum Yum" Goodwin. But this team was about to face off against the highest scoring fastest running team in then league in the dominant Hackers.
Well once again, the magnificent three Dave"I'm Super" Cooper, Roger "the Ninja" Keating and Bryce "Baby Face" Keating went to town. Cooper tallied 4 goals and an assists, The Ninja Keating had his own hattie and a helper while the young gun Baby Face picked up another two goals and you do the math. The Hackers scored 10 of the first eleven goals and it wasn't until late in the third that the Titans figured out a way to free up Rocketsauce and he scored two of his three and helped out on another.
It's not hard to figure out who the team to beat is this season.
the Hackers take this one by a score of 10-3...
So here is a trivia question for you all. The first one of you, who play in the league, who can come to me net Monday and answer this question will get a great coupon from our league supporting restaurant of choice Eastside Mario's of Bayers Lake.
Where does Shaun Goodwin's nickname come from?
Also, congrats to Marty "the Party" Kane who picked up this weeks Eastside mario's player of the week award...and also picked up the second star...things that make you go hmmm.
Just an FYI, the stars are generated by the website not people who have vested interests. Just saying' ;-)
So that's what things looked like from here. This is Billy Concarney saying so long and look for the tab that says H&S...it is our new feature of Handsom and Stoopid.
So I wonder...if you get your wisdom teeth out does it mean that you are...never mind.
Be well folks!
