Now for the Real Season! week 10 recap

April 20, 2016
Well hey ho to one and all!
This is Billy Concarney here and I am ready to lead you down the path of no return, where one team goes undefeated during the regular while the another goes winless. But let's take a peek at what went on last night...yes you read right...last night!

The night started with a few things undecided. Like who would finish 3rd through 6th and who would come out on top in the goaltending battle, and how many goalies wouldn't show up tonight...

Chill vs Fire

The Chill have been on a tear lately with power forward JD "The KD Kid" on a rampage and Keven "I Got Some Soft Hands" Pittman heating up at the right times. But talk about heat, the Fire have been exactly that and had wrapped up sole possession of second place before they even dropped the ball tonight.
But one enemy of heat is cold...and the Chill were ready to lay a cold pounding' on the Fire tonight. They dominated. Keven P started off by grabbing two quick ones in the first and the Fire started fizzling right from there. The first two periods saw the Chill dominate taking a 9-0 lead deep into the third and JD scored his Hatty and a couple more along with two helpers. Big time game for these guys. Also, Dan "The Man" Nauss has been a wall the last while and he turned in another star performance stopping 39 of 42 shots tonight to give his team the help they needed to win.
the Fire waited until the last frame to get it going and they scored the last 3 gaols of the game led by Colin "the Great" Waugh who scored 2 goals and added a helper in the losing effort.
The Chill take this one by a score of 9-3

Bulldogs vs Hackers

Well, the Hackers were poised to cap off a great regular season as they continued their quest for perfection. The Dogs wanted to turn in a great effort to gain some momentum heading into the play offs. Well one of the two happened...and unfortunately for the Dogs, it was the Hackers just completely dominating once again as they have done so much this season. Alex "The Codroy Kid" Gale went for the gusto and gusto he goT1. Gale scored 5 goals in this one, 4 of which were consecutive. Sheer dominance...like a nice bit oh lingerie from la Senza! Speaking of La Senza, Roger "The Ninja" Keating was on the sidelines as a healthy scratch. Rumour has it that he was resting his battered body before the play offs.
Hacker keeper Tom "I'm Due for the big" Wynn continued his stingy ways as he held the Dogs down to 1 goal.
This was just a wash and the Hackers slammed the Dogs by a score of 9-1

Sabres vs Slayers

So this was one of those meaningless games for the Sabres as they could do not better than 6th. That being said, no one wants to lose the last game heading into the play offs. The Slayers had been on a slide as of late and a win for them would solidify their hold on third place and pretty much ensure they would avoid the Hackers if they move along in the play offs.
This game was pretty lopsided on the score sheet, but thanks to Chris "the Big C" MacKinnon turning in one his best performances of the season, the game was a lot closer then it could have been. The Slayers had 12 shots on him before the Sabres registered their first shot of the game.
The Slayers jumped out to a 4-0 lead early on and never looked back. Led by rookie sensation Trevor "nothing rhymes with Wadden" Wadden, who tallied 2 goals and 4 helpers and Matt "I'm Phat" Seto who grabbed 2 gaols and an assist, the Slayers were just too much for the Sabres, who could not muster much offence at all. Besides MacKinnon, their only bright spot was Cory Mcguigan who scored a goal and added a helper.
The Fire score the win and garb 3rd place by beating the Sabres 8-2

So that is the regular season done with. This week's Eastside Marios Player of the Game award goes to none other then Chill offensive, and man is he ever offensive, juggernaut Jonathan "The KD Kid" Farnborough! Way to go JD.

We want to thank Eastside Mario's in Bayers Lake for sponsoring our weekly player of the game. Please make sure you all go by there often and check out the new menu. It rocks!

So a quick recap:
The Scoring race belonged to none other then Dave "I'm Super" Cooper who amassed 27 goals and 19 assists to take the number one spot. Congrats Dave!

The top keeper went to Marty "the Party" Kane who had a save percentage of .876 . Way to go Marty!

The Hackers become only the second team in the modern day era to go undefeated during the regular season. Major dominance for sure!

So let's take a look at the play off picture.

Round one looks like this

8th Place Lynx vs 1st place Hackers - sorry kitty cats...but you guys are done! (but who isn't facing these guys)
7th Place Titans vs 2nd place Fire - This is interesting. Could be close, but edge goes to Fire here
6th Place Sabres vs 3rd place Slayers - flip a coin...two top keepers and some great skill on either side. ain't calling it
5th place Bulldogs vs 4th place Chill - If Boom Boom Boudreau can play a game of his life, the Dogs have a great chance

Check back soon to see what the play off schedule looks like.

So that is how it all ended and this is how it all begins! The new season, what some call the "real season" starts now! Everyone has a clean slate and except for anyone facing the Hackers, we all have the same chance to win the coveted HFHL Cup.
Good luck ladies and gents!

this is Billy Concarney saying so long and remember, it ain't over until the fat lady sings...and I heard her practicing the Od' to Lynx just the other day... just saying' lol

Be well folks
