My name is Billy Concarney and this is you round 1 recap!
Lynx vs Hackers
Ok so here we have the opposites facing off against one another. The Hackers have dominated and have not lost a game during the regular season. The Lynx have not dominated and yes you guessed it, have not won a single game this season. But we all know that this is a chance to start out fresh. To bring a new outlook filled with a strong desire to move on to the next part of the dance.
So the ball drops and thing get a little feisty pretty quick. League rookie D man, Blair "go the North" Cameron picked up three quick penalties to send him to the showers. The Lynx, determined to give these guys a run for their money, played a hard fought first and backed by the great tending of Craig "The Gargoyle" Burgoyne, they finished the first down 2-1.
Then I heard a band called Crowded House singing a song about not dreaming it was over...and then it was!
5 playing seconds into the second, the Hackers completely changed the game. Alex Gale wins a face off, Roger Keating takes a monster slap shot and scores. The refs go get the ball...same play exactly.... Game over. Roger "the Hurting Ninja" gets a hatty in the second and the Hackers are off to the races. After the second the Hackers lead by a score of 7-3.
Here comes the third but no change there folks. The Hackers tally 5 more goals and finish the deed by whopping the hapless Lynx 12-3
Notables here were Dave "I'm Super" Cooper who tallied 5 goals and a helper...but probably most impressive was the fact that Alex "The Codroy Kid" Gale passed the ball 7 times...no this is not a typo...he grabs 7 assists and a goal to boot! Go Figure.
Hackers surprise no one and move along to the semis.
Sabres vs Slayers
Last week the short manned Sabres took a beating from the Slayer and lost 8-2. Would we see a repeat of that performance? Nope!
The Sabres came out of the gate quickly led by Chad "Im Bad" Banks who scored a hat trick au naturel! His team led by a score of 3-1 after the first.
Drop the ball for the second...The Slayers start to come alive. They pick up 3 goals to the Sabres 2 and the lead is cut to one 5-4 for the Sabres. Third period was a great period but not much scoring. The Sabres grabbed two more while the Slayer grabbed 1 and that was all she wrote. You couldn't hear the fat lady sing but some goof with a beard was sounding off...
That marked the end for the Slayers as they were sent off to go home and think about what might have been.
Sabres move on with a score of 7-5
Titans vs Fire
So The Fire finished second during the regular season. The Titans, have lots of fire power, but just haven't been able to put together the season they should have seeing their team on paper.
The Fire has some top rated D on their team and in many ways they would turn out to be the difference in this game.
Colin "The Iron Man" Waugh started it all off by scoring the first two goals of the game. The Fire kept it coming and after three more by various lads, they held a 5-0 lead after one.
That was something the Titans could not get over. The second saw the Titans grab two goals but the Fire still bested them by adding 4 more to their tally. Score was 8-2 after the second.
Lets start the third. Ok, well maybe that didn't change anything. The Titans grabbed two more but the Fire just were on a tear tonight and they scored 4 more to pad their lead and when it was all said and done, the Fire had come out on top by a score of 12-4.
Bright spots for the Fire were long time league veteran Rob "The Rhyno" Tyrrell who grabbed 4 goals and 2 assists. Also league rookie Ryan "Mr Money" Sampson picked up 5 points, 2 gaols and 3 assists.
The Fire move on as expected
Bulldogs vs Chill
The Chill started out kind of like their name sake this season, kind of cool and slow, but late in the year they started to put some big wins together and I would have to say that barring the Hackers, they have been the hottest team going into the play offs. A couple of key moves like moving power forward Jonathan "The KD Kid" Darnborough up to forward and some new found hands from Keven "Son of Rob" Pittman have been key points to their success.
The Dogs have been coasting along and really have been steady...but by no means stellar this year. Judging by the smiles on their team though one might think it might just be the funnest team in the league to play on!
Ball drops in this one and the Chill score three in the first, led by JD and KP.
Chill up three zip after one.
Second starts, JD grabs a nice Hatty and sends the fans into a frenzy "JD, JD, JD" they chant...or was it JB....hmmmm one never knows does one! ;-)
The Dogs grab one goal but the Chill have 8 by now...game is over right? Or is it...
Yea it is, third period sees nothing any different. Chill continue to dominate and then I can hear someone start "Bring on the Fire" chants. Hey it sort of sounded like Stinky! The Dogs played their best period in the third grabbing 3 goals, but not enough to stay close. Chill take this one by a score of 10-5
Notable in this game are KP who had 4 goals and 2 helpers followed by JD who the same. Way to go guys!
So that was it folks. No real surprises here tonight.
The Semis are set and will see the Sabres have to face the Hackers. Good as the Sabres might be, the Hackers just have way too much fire power. Hackers will come out on top. They play on the Big floor at 8:30
The Chill come into this game on a roll, but the Fire have been hot these days too. This will be a good game, but judging by the fact that the Fire chose the small floor, they have a lot of respect for the Chill's fast paced game and feel the small floor will shut that down a bit. I ain't calling this one folks...
These guys play on the Small Floor at 8:30
Well good night all. This is Billy C saying "Off to watch the Pens and the Caps"
be well folks!
