Hey there boys and girls and family pets! This is none other then the infamous Billy Concarney here to bring you all up to speed with what went on this past Monday night here in the HFHL.
It was semi time...time to either put up or shut up...or ref...or time keep for the guys who lost and didn't have anything else to do.
The two top seeds were facing off against teams of lesser point totals during the regular season. But this ain't the regular season joe. This is the big times. The time when we find out who has game and who has shame!
So enough of these really lame cliches, lets get on with the news shall we!
Sabres vs Hackers
First up we have the Hackers who are still on pace to finish the season with a rare perfect record. Something that has not been done for years. I believe the last one happened when Mike "The Boogie Man" Cogdon picked Marty "the Party" kane and they went perfect with adversity. Something that the Hackers have not faced at all this season. Would tonight be different?
It always starts out slow for the Hackers. They finish the 1st with a one goal lead...
Well this was the case tonight as well. With only one ref, the Sabres appeared to get ripped on a goal as the whistle was blown when the fat guy in the red shirt couldn't move his feet fast enough to get to the other end! He lost site and blew it down just as John Kedy was poking it in. Tough break for the Sabres but they handled it well.
Lone goal in this first was Cooper, who just like Moses parted the waters and ran right down the middle to rip one home.
Let's mov onto the second period. The Sabres started out hanging in there but they could only muster 5 shots. the Hackers on the other hand grabbed 4 gaols to dominate the second yet again and after 2 they led by a score of 5-0.
Would Wynn get the shut out?
The answer to that lay in what happened in the third...and really nothing exciting happened at all. Both team scored and the Hackers took another step closer to finishing undefeated. This game revealed some chinks on the armour though. Could the winner of the other semi finals be the ones to knock them off? we will see.
Something worth noting that the Hackers have given up and average of about 21 shots per game. No one is going to knock these guys off with those low numbers.
Hackers dominate agin by 6-1 score
Chill vs Fire
The Fire have had a great season and no surprise there when you look at the talent on the back end. With arguably the best D men in the league all huddled together on one team, they are a tough bunch to contain. Add a Rhyno into the mix and look out boys, cuz you dont know what is coming.
the Chill started out like cold molasses this season, but they could have been called the Fire 2! These guys have been on a tear. Backed by the great late season goaltending of Dan "The Man" Nauss, who took a little bit to get used to things but has settled in fine.
These guys traded goals in the first and after one the score was 2-2. Then comes the second. The Chill scored the first two goals followed by two from the Fire. But The Chill were just getting started and before the end of the second they had tallied two more.
So the score is 6-4 for the Chill after tow.
The third did not go well for the Fire. The young legs of the Chill carried the Old School Northbrook Guys to the finish line as the Chill went off in the third outscoring the simmering Fire by a 5 to 1 margin. That left the Chill dominating this game and moving on to the finals with a score of 11-5. The Fire had a great season, but there was just no denying the Chill on this night.
Notables in this game were Keven Pittman and JD who each recorded 4 goal and 4 assists performances. Way to go guys.
Also want to thank Fire goalie Mike DeGrace who jumped in late in the season when Darren Smith took an injury leave. Thanks Mike, you helped us all out for sure!
So that was it folks. The two winners are the Hackers and the Chill. We will see what happens come Monday night.
Will the Hackers stay undefeated?
Will someone get more than 20 shots on the Hackers?
Can The Chill carry their late season heroics into the final game?
Does anyone miss Dave Lebretons red shorts?
The answer to these questions are blowing in the wind...or so some guy named Bob Dylan said one time...or was it Joan Biaz?
Whoever it was it was a pretty stupid statement. The only thing blowing in the wind is my hair! And thats got nothing to do with Dave's shorts!
Eastside Marios Player of the Week Honors belong to Keven Pittman! Way to go Keven!
This is Billy Concarney saying good night and be well everybody!
