So here we are. I'm Billy Concarney and this is your week 9 recap!
First game of the night belonged to the dwindling Fire and the short manned Titans.
This was a very lop sided affair as the Titans came out in the first led by Scott "I'm Hot" Cross who fired 4 shots past Jason "Boom Boom" Boudreau...not to mention Ryan "I'm Dying'" Milligan who added two tallies and then Trevor "The Lawman" McGuigan popped one and just like that, it was 7 zip after the first.
The Fire mounted a brief comeback by scoring the first goal of the second and three more later in the period, but the Titans managed to keep the sizeable lead by adding two more of their won. 9-4 after two.
The third saw the Titans grab 3 more while the Fire added two, but man oh man that Cross guy was H-O-T Hot baby....grabbing 8 goals. Not to mention McGuigan who scored a goal and added 6 helpers along with Milligan who grabbed 7 points including 4 goals. Wow these guys dominated.
The Fire were not so hot as they got caught early and often leaving team GM and Captain Rob Tyrrell to start planning for the first round as a cinderella with thoughts of the 2018 A season draft.
Crosses 8 goal performance has earned him this weeks Eastside Mario's Player of the Week honours. Way to go Scotty!
Titans dominate this one 14-6
Next up was the Bulldogs and the Hackers. The Dogs have not had much bite at all this season while the surging Hackers have pulled within one point of league leading Sabres.
This one too was lop sided. The Hackers jumped out of the gate quickly when Cooper fired two past Highmore. But Shane Erb tallied the next two giving his team a bit of hope...but the Hackers ended the period with two quick goals and took a 4-2 lead into the second.
4-2 is not insurmountable especially when you score the first goal of the second making it a one goal game! But someone forgot to tell the Dogs that there was still more game to play and they scored three in a row to finish the second and then added five more in the third and this one was all shut down folks.
The Hackers ended up with 12 goals to the Dogs 3. Cooper scored 5 goals and had 3 assists while Fitz grabbed a respectable 4 goals and a helper. The Dogs only shining star was Shane Erb who recorded two goals.
Hackers blast the dogs 12-3
Our third game and possibly the game of the night...er at least before the ball dropped...was between the Slayers and the Sabres. the Sabres are on top of the pile right now while the Slayers are peeking at third place.
The first period saw two goals scored and both were by the Sabres. The second opened with the Sabres striking again followed by a tally from the Slayers. second period ends with the Sabres up 3-1.
The third period was pretty lack lustre but the Sabres kept their lead comfortable grabbing three more goals while the Slayers added two more to their total.
This one saw the Sabres win the game by a score of 7-3.
Notables in the game were Keven pittman who had 2 goals and his teammate JD Crossley who recorded a goal and two helpers.
Kyle Bayers managed to keep his lead in scoring by adding two of his own.
Last game of the evening was between the Chill and the Lynx.
The Lynx were missing two key players in Gil Mombourquette and Roy Monk, while the Chill were missing on elf their stay at home guys in Rene Aucoin who, well we guess he really did stay at home.
The Chill came out swinging and scored two quick punches to take an early lead. But Wes cook picked the corner blocker side on Kane to keep it close...for a few minutes any way. 2-1 Chill after one
The Chill came out like canons from Canning who had an unnatural hat trick to start the second. Brill then scored his second of the game. The leagues faster player speedy one mike gelinas grabbed a goal to end the period. 6-2 Chill after two.
Canning came out hard again scoring the first goal of the third but Ryan Sampson answered back quickly on a power play. The Chill ended the period with a goal by Matt Power and when it was all said and done, the Chill were too much for the Lynx taking this one 8-3
So that was how it went down this week folks. Now let's take a quick look at where everyone sits heading into the last game of the regular season.
the Sabres currently sit on top of the league with 15 points, but the Hackers are hot on their tails with 14.
the Hackers face off against the high scoring Titans while the Sabres take on the league bottoms dwellers in the fire.
So these guys will finish 1st and 2nd for sure.
the nest group is the Chill and the Slayers. these guys are two points apart. This is their only meeting off the season and if the Slayers win, from what i can tell they will clinch 3rd based on goals for and against. These guys will round out the top four for sure.
The bottom half is a wee bit tighter. The Titans are in 5th with 7 pts, the Lynx hold 6th with 6 points as do the Dogs, but they currently hold 7th because of the whole goals for and against scenario. The Fire will not change where they sit going into the play offs, but a win this week could help them build some momentum.
My head is not shaped well enough to figure it all out, but best advise i can give? Win your next game and make it easy on yourself!
So thats how it looks fro here folks.
I'm Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
