Well it ain't happening so just forget about it!
But we have a website and if you're good or maybe bad, you might see your names up here in lights!
I'm Billy Concarney and welcome to the first night of the 2018A season here at the HFHL.
Some interesting teams put together and lots of unanswered questions, but in just a minute we will know more of what this season might look like. So with out any further ado, let's get this party started!
First game of the night saw the Sabres visiting the Slayers. Both captains were confident going into this one that they had put together a solid group, but who would be the solidest...er. Yea solidister!
Ball dropped on the season and first goal recorded was a high blocker shot by new guy Kyle "the Tattoo Guy" Bradbury followed by a goal by Matt "Nova Scotia" Power off a pass from Keven Pittman.
The Slayers answered back with a goal from league vet Keven "I'm Bad" Haddad off a pass from returning vet D man Johann "Tierra" Tienhaara. But Chris "The power is" Innes grabbed his first tally of new season when he hogged the ball and found an opening. After the first, the Sabres were up 4-1.
The second saw the Slayers come out smoking' as the pressured the Sabres and had them on their heals. Jonathan Darnbrough, now know as JD, split the D and made a beautiful move on Marty "The Party" Kane and appeared to have his team within two, but Kane flashed the leather and robbed JD and from that point on, the Slayers lost their momentum.
Bradbury tallied another of his 4 goals on the night followed by on elf the grand fathers in the league, Rob "Dad of Keven" Pittman. JD git a measure of revenge when he sniped a quick snap shot low to Kane's blocker side, but Matt Power added to his total with a quick goal short moments later. 7-2 Sabres after the second.
the third saw more of the same as the Sabres added 4 more goals and when it was all said an done...the Sabres had sent a message that they were for real...at least for this game.
Sabres win this one 11-2
Notable in this game were Kyle Bradbury who scored 4 goals and Matt Power who added his own Hatty!
Our second game of the night saw The Lynx facing off against the home town Titans. There were some questions about the Lynx going into the season and whether or not they could gel enough to make a better go than last season. Let's find out how that worked out.
First goal of the game was Kevin Shute from one of 11 rookies Jacob Fahkri. But the Lynx answered right back with a quick goal from Tony "The Only Choice" Joyce from Matt Reed. The Lynx kept coming when Liam MacLeod fired his first of the season from Shane Erb. But the Titans weren't going anywhere. Scott Cross ripped his first of the season from new guy Fahkri and then added a helper to his totals when he fired a pass to Dan Sinnott who ripped a slapper home. But Shane Erb tied t up late in the frame when he buried a pass from James Griffin-Allwood. After the first the score was 3-3
The second saw the Lynx come out of the gate and score the first 4 goals of the period. The Titans were in a hole and only managed to grab one goal. There were a barrage of penalties against the Titans as two of their rookies had a hard time getting used to the "Windmill Rule" and as a result the Titans played 12n minutes short. Not sure if it cost them on the power play...because if it did IT WASNT NOTED ON THE GAME SHEETS!!!! Sorry had a moment. Score after 2 was 6-4 Lynx.
That two goal lead would stay the distance as both teams traded goals in the third and after all was said and done, the Lynx had their first win of the season in as many tries taking this one by a score of 8-6.
Notable in this game were Tony Joyce with a hat trick and Scott Cross with 3 goals and two helpers in a losing effort
Our second half of the night started with the Chill facing the Fire. Both teams looked pretty good on paper but the Chill were missing their regular keeper in Paul Highmore who was nursing a lower body injury. Marty Kane filled that void in person only.
This first period saw both goalies playing stingy as either team could only muster one goal a piece. Ryan Milligan scored his first of the year off a pass from Doug Forrest while Wes Cook buried a rebound right upstairs by the peanut butter off a shot from Wade Mullen. 1-1 after one.
the Second saw the Chill tighten up big time while they added a few gaols at the same time.Doug Forrest, Wayne had and Iain Arseneau all granted goals in the second to take a 4-1 lead into the third.
The Fire sort of fizzled after that and only managed 5 shots in the third, while the Chill kept coming adding another 3 goals to their totals. Arseneau grabbed two more and Gerard Gouthro recorded his first point of the season and after the fat lady was done...the Chill dominated by a score of 7-1
Last game of the night saw what could be the two most dominating teams o the league facing off against one another. the Hackers coming of their loss I'm the finals last season were facing off against the highly offensive...hey, maybe that wasn't the right wording...the really talented Bulldogs. Let's see how this one went down/
The Hackers came out of the gate fast and furious as they scored the first three goals of the game. Louis Brill grabbed his first, followed by Alex Gale and Dave cooper. The Dogs tried to stop the bleeding when new guys Steph Bourdages scored his first of the season, but the Hackers were relentless adding two more. One from Alex Gale and another from Paul Chang.
After the first it was 5-1 Hackers.
The second didint start well for the Dogs, as the Hacklers let coming with the first 4 gaols of the period. Rookie sensation...ok that was a bit much, Matt Strum scored his first three goals of the season in the second and Chang added another. The Dogs finally woke up and they tallied three to end the period. New guy Daryl McPherson grabbed one, followed by Bryce Keating and Steph Bourdages. Score was 9-4 Hackers after 2 period.
The third saw Strum grab three more while his team mates Alex Gale and cooper each added one. The Bulldogs managed to grab three more as Bryce Keating scored his second, as did Roger Keating and Daryl McPherson.
When it was all said and done, this one turned out to be the Matt Strum show as he grinned 6 goals and 3 assists to start the season which earned him this weeks HFHL Player Of The Week honours. Way to go Matt. His effort along with those of Alex Gale, who scored 3 gaols and added 2 assists as did Copper who did the same, gave the Hackers a dominant win taking this one 14-7.
Congrats to Roger Keating who surpassed the 600 point totals for his career here in the HFHL. Great job Roger!
So thats what we got here folks. I suspect that some phones will be ringing and emails going back and forth over the coming weeks, because it looks like a few teams might be evaluating their options and the trade rumours are a flyin'
I'm Billy Concarney saying so long and be well folks!
