With a growing waiting list to play in the league and a fan-base approaching that of the XFL, the AdcFhl literally made headlines this week. In the Monday edition of the Chronicle Herald and Wednesday's version of the Daily News, scores and goal scorers from week one of the 2001A were posted for all of Nova Scotia to see.
Not only did the AdcFhl make the news, their section was placed ahead of prestigious local events such as the Oland's Men's Pro Bowling League and the Martock Cleve's Skiing Race Series. Don Coolen, a member of the Oland's Bowling League, was outraged. "We've been working our way up the Daily News' 'local sporting events' list for years," said Coolen, "and to have this two-bit hockey league for geeks surpass us - it's a joke!"
In other news, it appears that the Slayers are once again back from the dead. Once the doormats of the league, the Slayers proved they are a team to be reckoned with this season as they trounced the Keane Fire last night 19-6 to even their record at 1-1. The Slayers turned a 4-4 second period tie into a 17-4 third period lead after scoring an amazing 13 straight goals. Reigning scoring champion Shawn Currie led the Slayers with 5 goals and 3 assists while Kenzie "the Fox" Royal added 6 goals. Also of note, was the reemergence of one-time great Paul Chui, who reasserted his claim as the top goalie in the league with his 45 save performance. The Fire, to their credit, was missing several key personnel who may have been deterred by the poor weather.
On Thursday, expansion teams square off when the Lynx face the Chill, while old rivals meet again when the Lite-Sabres play the Hackers.
