The Hackers moved forward in their attempts to re-sign their offensive core this week, signing all-star forward John Price to a new deal. Price, last year's Dartmouth Hockey League Rookie of the Year, gave the following statement: "I've been playing floor hockey for 27 years so I could get Rookie of the Year!" In a surprising announcement last night, Hacker GM John Dulong also announced the signing of last year's league MVP Dave Walsh. Walsh was rumored to be holding out for a better deal, and was considering sitting out a season and returning to his native PEI to play. With two pieces of the puzzle in place, Dulong hinted that they were close to a deal with Don Abbott, third leading scorer on the team behind Price and Walsh. "We spoke with Don on the phone yesterday and believe we will soon have a deal." Dulong said.
Dulong gave these comments at last night's opening pre-season game. A number of top prospects for the upcoming season were on hand to demonstrate their skills. Randall Leard and Steve Chaisson came out to play with Leard showing that he can be one of the league's premier wingers by assisting on most of his team's goals. Chaisson proved that he will be an all-star center in this league by putting goal after goal past veteran goaltender Mike Griffiths. Not in attendance were prospects Mike Terris and potential goaltender Peter Richards. Also, top prospect Greg Foran has decided to sit out the pre-season, nursing an unknown injury that rumors say he obtained at an after hours party.
