Alex Yeadon is this weeks HFHL Player of the Week

And The Winner is!!!

February 8, 2023
Hey there people! This is Billy Concarney here with the scoop on the finals which happened last Monday Feb 6th between the Chill and the Fire. So without any delays….   ….. ….

This was set to be a great game as both teams again had a nearly full roster. Mark Slaunwhite was a no show for reasons believed to be sunny and warm while Sam Haliburton was, well just a no show.
The ball dropped and the party got started rather quickly as Warren Churchill made a solo effort to give the Chill an early lead. The Fire came burning back though and scored three unanswered goals. Alex Gale netted his first of the game from Liam Oxner then Mark Duggan buried a sweet pass from Stephen Combdon and Anil Snook poked one by Adam Larder on a feed from Oxner. After the first it was 3-1 for the Fire.
The second period saw the Fire add to their lead when the Gale brothers, Alex from Eric teamed up to make it 4-1. The Chill were not done though, Adam Mackenzie took a nice pass from Shannon Thoms to get within two. Then Alex DeSousa took a feed from Thoms and brought it to within one. DeSpusa then netted his second in a row again from Thoms and this baby was all tied up. The Fire then took advantage of a miscommunication that leftDuggan unattended in front of the net. Combdon once again slid a nice pass to Duggan and he made no mistakes. Period ended and the Fire took a slim one goal lead into the final frame.
The third was a barn burner and Chill captain Rylan Smith took control early and scored his first of the night without any helpers. We were all evened up. Alex Gale broke the tie when his bro Eric passed him the ball and he scored his third of the night. Gale wasn’t finished and he snapped a shot past Larder on a feed from Anil Snook and the Fie had an uncomfortable two goal lead. I say uncomfortable because the whole period the Chill were coming hard and Kevin Kennedy answered the call by making great saves after save. The Chill’s relentless attack was rewarded with 15 seconds left when Adam Mackenzie scored on a DeSousa pass. But time was not on their side and they could not get a shot off in the dying seconds. The bell sounded and the crowd went ….ok, there wa no crowd, but the bench went wild and the Fire were crowned champions once again! This was one of the best final ga,es we had witnessed as it was clean and close and both teams gave a great effort. Kudos to the Chill for pulling together at the end of the season to get where they were. They put in a classy effort. Great job boys.

The league brass got together and decided this years MVP was Fire goalie Kevin Kennedy. Despite getting toasted in the first round, he was so
1st rd, he was solid in the second and made some very key saves in the finals to give his team a shot at the win. Congrats Kevin!
